Honoria Nagle latter known as Nano was born 1718 in Ballygriffin near Mallow in North Cork Ireland. England at the time had put in place strict penal laws, which restricted catholic children in Ireland from going to school and being educated. With Nano being born to a longstanding wealthy Catholic family, meant Nano was not able to go to school in Ireland to be educated. As a result, Nano’s parents Garret and Ann Matthew Nagle sent Nano and her sister Anne to France to be educated.

At the age of 28 Nano returned to Ireland with her sister Anne after her father's death, to help support her mother; who died soon after. Shortly later, Nano went back to Ireland To become a sister after reflection and prayer in Ireland. With her thoughts often returning to the children of the poor especially the catholic ones who weren't able to go to school and be educated, Nano returned back to her homeland at 32, renting a cabin in Cork. Nano gathered secretly children and educated them in math through to reading and writing. After school Nano would go to visit the sick and unhealthy giving them comfort, medicine and food. Nano would often be seen making visits late into the night carrying a lamp, leading to the name Lady of the Lantern.

Nano then went on to open convent for women where they could live in the footsteps of Jesus, through prayer, teaching and caring for the poor. Nano Also went on to open 7 school before dying at the age of 65 in 1784.

The Parable of the good Samaritan is found in Luke 10:25-37. It tells of Jesus teaching a parable to one the experts in law who wanted to know who was his neighbor. The characters within the story was the traveler who was walking down a path and was robbed and badly injured by thieves. Later on a levite and a priest walk down the path and saw the injured traveler but both kept on walking past him. The Samaritan later walked down the path and noticed the badly injured man on the side of the road but instead of walking past like the others the Samaritan cleaned the travelers wounds and took him to a inn. This story was set around the time of Jesus near Jerusalem and Jericho, at the time Samaritans were despised by the Jews
This story meaning of it today is one to be kind and help people in need no matter where they came from or who they are.
Nano Nagle was a great example of the good Samaritan as she helped all the kids that she could and didn't think of herself and that she could get in trouble.

Rerum Novarum was an encyclical written by Pope Leo xiii. One of the paragraph speaks about protection for the poor, this talks about how it is the duty of the public to help the poor. Nano Nagle would have have welcomed this Rerum Novarum with a open heart. She would have especially apply to this paragraph as she helped lots of poor children get a education as well as helping the sick of the poor.
