         <title>Building Blocks Study </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Two groups of children were given blocks: Group 1 revived the blocks at the beginning of the trial and Group two received them towards the end.<br>Parents were asked to play with them by building things, stacking them etc. &nbsp;<br>In a language test 6 months later the children who received the blocks early scored higher (56%) with language ability than those who received them later( 42%)<br>** It is important to be engaging young children with these types of activities t help develop language and brain functioning!</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Excessive time spent watching TV decreases the time children spend playing with each other, interacting in make believe play, drawing and real world relations. &nbsp;<br><br>Research done at Princeton University found that infants and toddlers learn better from real-life experiences than from video&nbsp;<br><br>Screen time limits the development of sociodramatic play and does not allow for children to explore different topics (positive and negative) through their play. &nbsp;<br><br>A child watching images of a farm and farm animals on Baby Einstein does not give them the same effect as acting out being a farmer or using plastic farm animals and acting out a farm scene!&nbsp;<br><br>Childhood play allows for cognitive flexibility and creativity.<br>Creativity can be expressed through children's drawings.  </div>]]></description>

They are not receiving the proper scaffolding, they will not be enhancing their zone of proximal development and they will not be engaging in guided participation. &nbsp;<br><br>Without these chances to gain knowledge from parents, children begin to fall behind their same aged peers.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street are just two examples of TV shows that can be watched with parents and can help provide valuable lessons for children. &nbsp;<br><br>There are many opportunities for make believe play to be modeled and for scaffolding or guided participation to be discussed with parents while watching these shows.&nbsp;<br><br>Sesame Street provides lessons on racial harmony, cooperation, kindness, simple arithmetic and the alphabet<br><br>Children take virtual field trips to the zoo, library, bookstores, museums and parks. &nbsp;<br><br>With proper parental involvement these TV shows can be perfect moments to interact with your children and stimulate many of the areas both Piaget and Vygotsky speak about.  </div>]]></description>
