Our First Steps

When we finished our Vex Clawbot IQ, our teacher announced to our class that we were going to have a pulley competition. We had millions of ideas already. After she finished, we got to work. Other groups had already made their pulleys but we used our knowledge to build our pulley. Originally, we had three pulley parts to wrap around. Then we realized the load was to heavy so we added two more pulley parts. Our pulley was a compound pulley with five pulley parts so Vex had to pull a fifth of the weight of the load. Then we took off our two wheels and replaced them with gears. Our next/second step will be to test our current Vex mechanics. After we tested the mechanism we found out that our Vex was not heavy enough for the load as it got lifted up instead of the bucket. Once this happened, we replaced the last two wheels with gears then tied the strings to the gears and tested, but this time, we had someone hold Vex in place and then we pulled backwards. The string wrapped around the gears and pulled the bucket we were trying to lift up. Once we did this, the person pinning Vex to the ground let go and Vex started to lift of the ground as well. Luckily, the bucket stayed up too.

WARNING! List

There are many problems during your Vex journey if you aren't careful so here are some warnings that will help you along your amazing Vex journey!
My first most important warning is NEVER put your hands within one foot of moving Vex gears! Your skin will get caught in the gears and will rip. This is very painful and it will take about a week to heal. My next warning is also very important so listen up, always make sure you have the right sizes for your pieces and don't put anything on backwards. If you put stuff in backwards, its very probable that your claw will not go on properly. My last warning is a very helpful one, make sure you put your radio chip in far enough. Every group except one*, didn't push it in far enough so we were spending days trying to figure it out. So that's all my warnings for you. Thanks!

* Look at this groups blog. They have a lot done. https://padlet.com/1blogblo/7abk7bt3q7vc

It took us three weeks to completely make our robots On January 15th 2016 we received our Vex completely deconstructed and in a box waiting for us in the office. So one person in our group went to get it while the other two met them at the library. Once all the groups and boxes got to the library we started organizing. Organization is crucial as you don't want to lose any pieces or you will have trouble making you ideas come to life. After we organized we were allowed to start creating Vex. It was a tricky start but we persevered and got through it. After the first few days we got the hang of it but not well enough clearly as we still made some errors then we finally finished after lots of errors but we did it we were very happy! Then we reconstructed our vex to make a pulley! (If you haven't read the middle already it will take you from here).
