For my gallery, I chose to look at primarily Canadian war art, with the main focus on Canada's seminal battles: Ypres, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and The Hundred Days. The paintings provide a number of heroic images from the wounded soldier leading his men forward during the 2nd Battle of Ypres, to the gunners who played an increasingly important role in Canadian operations, to Piper Richardson whose unbelievable courage in the face of the enemy, armed only with bagpipes, seems beyond imagining. Finally, I included painting of stretcher bearers and a Canadian hospital without whom many more Canadians would have died, including one of my grandfathers.
