evidence 1: the beak of the groundfish got longer and thicker in 1978 by about 1 mm
reasoning 1:the finches beak changes by the thickness and in length by about 1 mm by eating different foods that they didn't have before. natural selection is when animals are better suited to the environment this means the birds with the better characteristics survived them better suited the environment to be able to get other food
evidence 2: the Portugal seeds went from an average of about 9 seeds per month in 1975 and 1976 to almost 0 per meter per month in 1977
reasoning 2: this shortage of Portugal seeds means the bird who had longer beaks survived because they were able to get the seeds they needed. they had to get other seeds and food which was harder to get, so only the birds who could get it survived
evidence 3:the rainfall on daphne major decreased by 110 mm in 1977 due to drought
reasoning 3: the decrease in rainfall caused the birds who are better suited to the environment survive better than the birds who aren't to the lack of water. the birds with longer beaks can get water from the seeds better than the ones with short beaks, causing the short beak birds to have less food and water. this caused most of the small beaked finches to die
