Cartoons have served America as a great form of entertainment but they are more than just that.They have been a way for Americans to connect and share how they feel with humor.Some cartoons have even been seen as controversial for poking fun at society.  They have also helped shape the generations to come by teaching kids valuable lessons in a way which they will listen to but also enjoy watching. Cartoons such as any of Walt Disney’s animations, Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, and Spongebob Squarepants have all contributed to teaching children valuable lessons or expressing one’s opinion about a real world problem. The famous short animated cartoon is directed by Walt Disney and animated by artist Ub Iwerks. The Silly Symphonies series is important because it was the first cartoon to incorporate music and actions in a unison which was so innovate as this was never done before and pushed the animation industry to new heights. It is the first feature length cel animated film. Cel animation is the technique where every frame of the film is drawn by hand. It is also the first animated feature to receive a widespread release. Walt Disney is given an honorary Oscar for the film. This film was the beginning of many classics by Walt Disney that would go on to teach children simple yet important lessons such as why lying is bad, the importance of friendship, and even inspire kids.

It is the second animated feature film released by Walt Disney. Pinocchio is innovative in its effects animation, showing realistic movements of machines, vehicles, water, smoke, and shadows.

One of the most beloved animated films of all time, Disney's Bambi, is released. The film is nominated for three Academy Awards and is part of the Library of Congress' National Film Registry. 

Pinocchio furthered the development of animation and Bambi shows how cartoons are beginning to get recognition in America as great forms of entertainment as well as an art form being valued by not just children but adults as well.

The Flintstones begins airing as an animated television sitcom in prime-time. Produced by Hanna-Barbera, the series is the most commercially successful animated series for the next thirty years.

The 90’s began to bring the rise of more adult focused cartoons. This was sort of a throwback to the cartoonists that would criticize society and issues in America through their political cartoons. The film receives three Academy Award nominations. Many critics consider it one of the best animated films ever. Two sequels are made, both also massively successful.

Disney once again delivered with successful cartoons movies and were seen as what the outcome of the early 1900’s cartoonists aimed for in the future. Being extremely influential to our generation and having such a large amount of merchandise and still running to this day it is what cartoons in the early 1900’s had led up to.
