In this digital age, where technology is in the forefront, connection has been made possible beyond distance and time. Most of us believe that technology helped us in connecting with people in any part of the world. We have this notion that technology makes life easier. However, does it really make us more connected or more disconnected to the world we live in?
Technology is the new drug of the digital age. And just like other drugs, we're becoming addicted to technology. Each day we never forget to check our phones, sometimes to the point that we don't let go of it anymore. Wherever we go we always have them. We're always holding them. We always use them, even at times where we shouldn't. It's starting take over our lives.
It's become our gateway to escape our realities. Where we get to control our virtual self. We get to be who we want to be and only show what we want others to see. We're only posting what we want and most of the time, it's far from the truth.
I strongly believe in what she called the Goldilocks effect - not too close, not too far, just right. That effect had changed our real direction in life. We wanted to change ourselves so we edit our lives to the way we want it to be. We've been focusing on building our virtual self that we sometimes ask ourselves "Who am I?"
We should be having real conversations with the real people around us but what's happening is we are so focused on our phones that we don't even notice those people. Because of technology we've lost connection to the people that surrounds us. We have forgotten the idea or what it feels like having real conversations in real time.
What scares me the most is that we're becoming dependent on it. We use technology for almost everything. It's beginning to replace the people around us. We trust it to do more for us than we trust other people to do for us.
Through technology we are virtually connected. Yet through technology we realize that we are alone in reality. And that's what makes us lonely because we exist in reality but live in a virtual world.
