The author shows this by describing the way children are acting and how the surrounding area around the cluster is reacting to them. Some examples of this, for one, the youngest of the cluster are not listening and being reckless. They don't have any organization on what they are planning to do and what they want to do. Their carelessness on the island is affecting others and the surrounding area as well. There is this book called A Girl Who Owned A City and in the book there in a 10 or 11 year old girl who realizes that all of her surrounding adults have died of a certain disease that seems children under the age of 14 are not getting. This girl and her younger brother have to thrive off what they have left and what other people have. Sadly, there are other gangs around that are trying to take over what the girl has. She had to find a way to make a community to survive together, and those community members are really young kids. Anyways, comparing Lord of the Flies to A Girl Who Owned A City, the GWOC has a community who will actually try to survive and not die. Besides, they are still in a city and have food, shelter and all that good stuff. What LOF doesn't have is children who are ready for a scenario of them trying to survive. Around them is a big island that is ready to take them down, but they don't know how to fight against any of it. Making a fire isn't going to get them very far. At his school, which is a civilized community, it would be against the rules to be naked but since he was on an island with no adults and no rules there was nothing wrong with being naked. There's nothing wrong with no rules which leads to chaos. Also, community goes against anarchy because the boys do not have a leader. The boys try to become a community by electing a leader by, "Let's have a vote."

Growing up they have been able to survive because of having access to many resources that kept them alive and wealthy without having to worry about running out of resources; but being trapped in world where they have to figure out things on their own, learn to survive, and have responsibilities without and rules or laws that they have to follow. But in order to survive the author shows that Piggy, Ralph, and Jack have to make their own rules in order to live. As time passes by, day by day, the boys will learn how to be in a anarchy situation without actually going anarchy. In real life, all people are expected to behave and not act like complete animals. William Golding, author of Lord of the Flies, showed that when not around any type of supervision, people could easily do whatever they wanted to do. Community is the act of being around others, public or just at home, and everyone is in the same area. Meanwhile, anarchy is when there doesn’t seem to be any rules. This book is a perfect example of anarchy in just the first two chapters. The boys in the story started with just being plain naked, telling the reader that there is no adult to tell the children to not do that in front of others. Later on, however, reality kicked into their heads, they got dressed, became bored, and wanted to get off of the island. Even if the boys are all together, they’re creating a community of doing whatever they want until they realize that they must figure out a way to survive. In the first chapter, every single boy was not dressed and acting like nothing was wrong. By the end of the first chapter and going onto the second chapter, the boys had a meeting about how they’d find food and who would be their leader. Anarchy slowly moved into community within the first and second chapter (or the same day for the book). In the 18th page, Piggy is seen taking names of the children that have just came to the sound Ralph was making with the conch. Each child gave Piggy obedience when saying their names. This tells the reader that the boys still have community manners when asked to give a name or a simple answer to a question, it isn't all just rough housing. Once Ralph became leader, the other boys began to listen to him and show even less chaos than before. On page 41 it shows how crazy the boys got, they were trying to make a fire but no smoke would come up. So instead of looking for something else they took Piggy's specs and put them in the fire. This shows that just because there aren't any adults around that they would act crazy. But, Piggy was trying to be more of an adult than anyone else. He would be more responsible and tell the other boys when they were doing something wrong, or telling them to be quiet because they didn't have the conch. Jack on the other hand, is the complete opposite. He is the more wild one out of all of the boys, and Ralph was kind of in between, he wanted to have fun but he also wanted to be the leader of the group so they end up surviving and being found. You can tell that Ralph tries hard to get everyone's attention because he want to be a kid and do what Jack does but he also wants to be the leader. On page 38, it says that Ralph was trying to say something about them being saved, but no one listened because everyone was talking. Jack interrupted and said that they should go make a fire. Ralph was mad because he wanted everyone to listen, and before he could say anything else they all ran away, except for Piggy. This shows community versus anarchy because if they were at home they wouldn't be acting this way. They would've had their shelter, food, and parents around.
