A tragic hero is characterised by a tragic flaw and the tragic hero is confronted with a situation that confronts his particular flaw. Step by step he loses everything and everyone and eventually the character dies. It's often from a great height, (high-ranking), that the tragic hero falls. His downfall is unbearable but at the same time fascinating. One can admire how the tragic hero pursues his goals without thinking of the cost, which makes him a compelling character.
