Also, in Mexico, the peasants were socially oppressed by a ruler who wasn’t even of their own country. 
Many private landowners lost their land to governments. However, the approach to redistribution was very different as well as the use for that land. Therefore, they had very different methods of acquiring land.

Venustiano Carranza (Doc 2) a landowner and a politician is against the redistribution of land amongst the people. He believes this because he is a landowner and does not wish to give up his estate. This shows that some resistance to land redistribution caused the government to approach the issue differently.

In Mexico, Emiliano Zapata kicked the former dictator, Diaz, out of office ,and began redistributing land to peasants. Certain people in both Mexico and Russia, lost land. In Mexico, the government redistributed land to peasants, but in Russia, they wanted collective farms to control directly. Russia forced the peasants to give them land, while mexico gave compensation to people. therefore, mexico was more different than Russia in land reforms.

According to the Mexican Constitution (Doc #4), private property cannot be taken unless for public utility, and while providing fair compensation. The authors believed this because they wanted to please the wealthy landowners and political bosses, many of which were most likely involved in the writing of the Constitution.

Before the Mexican Revolution Porifio Diaz was the President of Mexico and Emilio Zapata, a peasant rebellion leader, took him out of power. In Russia before the revolution Tsar Nicholas II was in power, but Stalin overthrew him so they could have a communist government. During the Mexican and Russian Revolution, the government took land away from their people. However in Mexico the land was redistributed to the peasants while in Russia the land was used for collective farming. And in Russia the land reform was more brutal than in Mexico.

  • During the communist revolutions in Russia and Mexico, land was redistributed to the peasants from private owners. However, 100% of the land in Russia was redistributed in a short period of time and only 50% in Mexico gradually. Russia also used prison and executions to seize land, but Mexico gave compensation to the land owners. Therefore, even though they were both communist revolutions, land reform was very different in Mexico than in Russia.
