The Cardiff Wellbeing Support Service’s Wellbeing Mentoring service seeks to boost a citizen’s health and wellbeing by helping them become more active and engaged in their community. We provide short term, one-to-one mentoring by our own Health and Wellbeing Mentors to help citizens access community activities, events, advice, and other support to help meet their wellbeing needs and make new friends along the way. Once a Health and Wellbeing Mentor has been assigned, a period of support for up to 13 weeks is available for the citizen and their mentor to work on what is needed to improve their wellbeing, as outlined in their own personal Action Plan.

Our Community Volunteering Team encourages people to give back through volunteering in their community. We help citizens to feel more active, social, engaged, and improve their wellbeing. Volunteers get involved in many ways including running and supporting community activities (such as Tai Chi, craft groups, children’s activities), helping the smooth running of Hub and Library services (by helping staff to greet the public, shelve books and signpost to services), and by befriending and helping unpaid carers as part of our Caring Friends project. We support our volunteers by arranging regular meetings with their mentors, providing ongoing training where needed, organising celebration and social events, and issuing Tempo Time Credits.

Rubicon Dance established in 1976 is a community dance organisation and registered charity based in Adamsdown, Cardiff. We are proud to be one of the four oldest and most respected community dance organisations in the UK. We offer dance opportunities to all whatever someone’s age, ability, background and circumstance.

For almost 50 years, Rubicon has delivered relevant, inspiring, creative and inclusive dance sessions to people from all walks of life. We lead dance sessions for people and communities from across Cardiff, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan and have built a strong, nationally recognised reputation for our ability to lead dance sessions for those who can often be excluded from dance. We believe that no one should be prevented from participating in a dance session whatever their background or circumstance.

Our work supports a range of people, including children, adults, schools programmes, patients in hospitals, stroke survivors, those living with disabilities, older people and early years Our dance practitioners are highly skilled, experienced and versatile and are able to lead appropriate, enjoyable and beneficial sessions starting where participants are at whether that is a teenager who is reluctant to participate in a dance session to a child, adult or older person who finds themselves in hospital.

We believe in consistency of provision and trust and strong relationships have built over many years. We have led weekly dance sessions in our local school Adamsdown Primary for 40 years which is a unique partnership with thousands of children having participated in the sessions. We have second and third generations of the same family attending sessions with Rubicon.

Our base has been in Adamsdown since 1983 and it’s an area where we feel we belong and that our work is most useful in and also that we know our local community well. We also have a development programme across Cardiff, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan where Rubicon dance practitioners lead sessions in schools, hospitals, care homes and community venues. We are building participation numbers back up since COVID but currently work with just under 1,000 participants weekly. Our youngest ever participant was six weeks old and our oldest one hundred and six.
