The only other two people in the house were their daughter, Lizzie Borden, and their maid, Bridget. Almost immediately after the murders, Lizzie became the primary suspect in the case. There were very few pieces of evidence and the trial was primarily a character trial, with most witnesses claiming that Lizzie was "not the sort of person who could commit murder." Given that the murders were approximately 2 hours apart, there was not anyone else (other than Bridget) who had the opportunity. The timing of the death also supports a financial motive.  Because Abby was murdered first, she (nor her descendents) could not inherit Andrew's fortune and therefore it went to the daughters.
