         <description><![CDATA[<p>Mitosis consists of prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, with distinct cellular activities characterizing each phase. This completes the duplication of the nucleus, and is followed by cytokinesis, in which the cell divides to produce two genetically identical daughter cells. Prophase is the preparation of each component. Prometaphase is sometimes considered a separate phase but is also referred to as late prophase, and is primarily defined by the breakup of the nuclear envelope. During the metaphase, the mitotic spindle is fully developed. Centrosomes are positioned at opposite poles of the cell. Chromosomes align along the metaphase plate. Each sister chromatid is attached to a spindle fiber originating from opposite poles. Mitosis is the process of cell division that occurs in most cells of the body. It serves for growth, tissue repair, and asexual reproduction in some organisms.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Meiosis</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Meiosis is a special type of cell division of germ cells in sexually reproducing organisms that produces the gametes, the sperm or egg cells. It involves two rounds of division that ultimately result in four cells, each with only one copy of each chromosome. Prior to the division, genetic material from the paternal and maternal copies of each chromosome is crossed over, creating new combinations of code on each chromosome. Interphase: a cell with double the normal amount of DNA prepares for division. Meiosis I: the first round of division, where homologous chromosomes separate and produce two haploid cells. Meiosis II: the second round of division, where sister chromatids separate and produce four non-identical haploid gametes. Each round of division consists of four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase, where chromosomes condense, align, separate, and decondense. Meiosis generates genetic variation through recombination and independent assortment, ensuring diversity in offspring and supporting Mendel’s observations on inheritance patterns. Mendel’s experiments revealed that the segregation and independent assortment during meiosis the two different alleles for a gene also segregates so that each gamelle acquires one of the two alleles.  </p>]]></description>
