A folk story told in ancient Japan. We incorporated the Kyogen style drama to preform Momotaro. The Kyogen style drama is extremely dramatic and comedic. To make the play as authentic as possible we had to use Japanese props and wear traditional Japanese clothes. We also used Japanese to preform and deliver our lines. This unit combined both drama and Japanese. Unfortunately, we weren't able to preform because of online learning so we audio recorded ourselves delivering the lines instead. Combining drama and Japanese was really extraordinary however, I was able to really practice my drama and Japanese skills, both acting and talking in a appropriate style. I communicated well with my teammates, we all knew what had to be done and distributed the roles fairly. I would could have delivered my audio performance with more enthusiasm as I was the main character who volunteered to fight the ogres. I have learnt how different countries and cultures have different styles of performance. I was really surprised with the tone of voice that Kyogen drama uses because it is very exaggerated and loud. Unfortunately, we were unable to preform because of the school closure. I organised and prepared by making a padlet and putting everything I have done on the padlet so it will be easily able to find and access. I really enjoyed researching and studying the history of Kyogen. I was challenged during this unit because of the online learning, it made it hard to get lots of work done. I overcame this by doing some work on my own time in order to meet the deadline. The benefits of learning a play preformed in a different language is that you can truly appreciate the play because of how different it is from the regular plays you do in drama. I feel like the limitations of preforming a play not in English is that you can't express your emotions as well because you may not truly understand the meaning of some words.
