I said ‘Maya, you and Crystal can pick a carrot, if you like, but make sure it’s a really big one. I think there’s a big one up here, is there?’. Maya let out a cheer ‘yay!’ and they both ran over to the vegetable garden. Maya finds a carrot in the garden and says ‘This is big!’ I pointed out another large carrot ‘Oh, look at this one, Crystal’, Crystal exclaimed ‘Whoa!’. Maya said ‘That one's not big enough’. So, Maya went off to see if the carrot Crystal was looking at was big enough. Maya said ‘Oh, let’s see, let’s see, let’s see’, as she began to look under the foliage at the carrot hiding beneath. Maya began to wiggle the carrot back and forth trying to get it loose holding onto the carrot leaves. There was no movement. ‘Can you do it?’ I asked Maya and Crystal. I offered some help and loosened the carrot up a bit for the two ‘here you go. Just pull hard. Is it going to come out? I’ll give it a bit of a move. You go’. Maya pulls the carrot out of the soil. ‘That’s tiny!’ Maya says I reply ‘that’s a tiny one, isn’t it? That’s a round one.’ Maya holds up the carrot to investigate. ‘Look at that. Do you think you can cook it for dinner? Want to take it home for Mum?’ I ask. Maya explains ‘but first you need to wash it’ she says looking at all the dirt all over the carrot. ‘We do need to wash it first. 2.4.2: Children participate with others to solve problems and contribute to group outcomes 
This was seen when Maya was investigating the carrots with Crystal and they worked together to figure out which carrot to choose. They also worked together to get the carrot out of the soil.
2.4.3: demonstrate an increasing knowledge of, and respect for natural and constructed environments
Maya demonstrated she had knowledge of the natural environment when she was deciding what carrot to pick and being very gentle with the plants in our garden
 
Developmental Milestones
Social: enjoys playing with other children and may have a particular friend
This is shown when Maya is playing with Crystal and was working as a team with her to try to find the biggest carrot to pick
Cognitive: answers simple questions, has a longer attention span, follows simple instructions
Maya met her developmental milestone and demonstrated her ability to respond to questions and follow instructions whilst she was picking the carrot and maintaining conversation with me
