This oil formed from living organisms that died and sank to the ocean floor and over time their bones became different types of rock. But not all these animal remains turned to rock, some became oil when they combined with the weight of the water and the earth's core heat. After a while the oil leaks into little holes in the rock and is now preserved there with layers of rock over it. Also the distribution of oil is uneven for example Saudi Arabia is one of the larger countries in southwest Asia and also has the most oil. But small country Kuwait has 10% of the worlds oil reserve. When other countries such as Yemen and Bahrain have not near as much. Oil has improved the wealth of tons of people. Sometimes if it is a oil rich country people can be more wealthy than people in non-oil rich countries. The high oil selling countries have a high  per capita GDP, this shows how wealthy countries are. Money from selling oil hasn't stopped all poverty in southwest Asia. For example the country Yemen is a pretty poor country but still has plenty of oil but they do not use it to change the poverty.
