In yellow, I highlighted main ideas and elaborated on potential meanings. In pink, I highlighted repeated words throughout the poem. In blue, i highlighted some alliteration that I found. Lastly, in green I highlighted a word that I had to go and look up because I was unaware of its meaning. I reread the poem multiple times to find the recurring themes and put them together to form the meaning. The main ideas in "Out, Out—" are simple yet can be easy to miss. The focus is always on the ideas of nature vs technology and life vs death. The days were boring and nothing happens, yet suddenly— the boy is was now dealing with the complete opposite (hand chopped off). The others quickly get over it though... meaning that death is just a way of life. That has always helped with remembering when reading an item. 
For ex: I used the color blue for location/setting red for things that surprised me. I always yellow for important things/ things I find important.
