- One advantage of signing to a major record labels is that you get more publicity with your music. When signed to a major record label because of the reputation and finance they have your music/ talents will spread further into the general public. In addition to this , your music will become main stream resulting in your audience becoming bigger and gaining more consumers.
- Another advantage of signing to major record label is that you will be able to do have collaborations with different within your label , depending which label/labels your are signed to. You will also have access to top range high quality equipment to make your music sound top range.
- The last advantage of signing to a major record label is that you fan base will increase locally in your country and internationally. You will gain a lot of recognition for your work and talent which you are providing the general public with. Alongside this you will financially grow.

Disadvantages of signing to record labels :
Every record label has it good and dark sides to it. Even though the good part sides weigh the bad sides , it is eveidently that bad sides do eventully have a toll are artist. These are the following :

- Pressure from the media: 
A large amount of artist have been a victim  of a crisis which was  by the media. As a major sometimes you may fail to live up to the expectations of an idol and trip up , however the media is always watching waiting for the right moment for you to slip up so that they can post id on different social platforms. This indeed is very not for the artist but the record label that they are representing . Depending on what the artist done social can ruin their career , make them suffer with server depression , alcohol abuse , drugs , suicidal thoughts and more.  This is because the media doesn't care about artist they are only paid to do their jobs , if the gets caught in a bad act the general public will harshly verbally abuse them , and could but their in a bad light , jeopardising their reputation. Artist also have minimum privacy in their personal , and are unable to go out to eat at normal restaurants , stores like everyone else without getting stalked or harassed.  An example of this is Chris brown. When he began to reach the peak of his career Chris brown and his former girlfriend got into a fight which didn't will for his career. He charged with assault and was sentenced to 5 years of probation and six months of community service. His career when downhill from there on , he got into a multiple of fights , and violated his probation. due to this he went into jail for 131 days. In jail he decided to change his life around. When Chris brown was 23 he came out with his hit single " Loyal" since then he has rebuilt his career and wants to keep on going up in the industry 

-In debt with your record label.
As a recording artist it is very likely that you will be in debt with your record label. This is because of royalties. When an artists makes an album they have to pay for the shipping of the album , cover of the album , the cost of broken packages ( even though music isn't sold on CD's anymore), which is covered by the record label. When the expenses are calculated which the record label cover the artist is left in debt with their label.



-  Being controlled by your label and making mainstream music and appearance:
The music industry con be very controlling towards the song artist release. Records label objectives is to ensure that their artist produce hit single. So they make artist songs as main stream as possible and decided which songs artist should put on their albums , or decided if they think it will be hit or not , which happened to Beyonce on her B day album. Her record label said that none of her songs on her album was going to be a hit , however the album, gained 514,000 sales in the first week of release. B day peak at number one on the billiard board 200 on the 23rd of September 2006. Her songs Deja vu" and "Ring the alarm" featured in a lot of commercials and adverts.

Whist this is good for the record to consistently getting hits from there artist its destroys the artist creativity. Furthermore personal appearance is crucial in Hollywood and the music industries. Even though music industries are not verbally stating what they require for the artist to look like , we can only concluded. All major artist are desired to fit , slim , have white teeth , clear skin . For women having a hour glass figure , big hips excreta. Artist look a certain way to inspire people to look like them of live their lifestyle.

Advantages:

Having control of your music: 
Having control of your music is big advantage when it comes to being apart of an indie record label. Artist are not pressured to create mainstream music , they are praised for being unique and creating a style which not has done before. Indie records appreciate new style and try to improve it as well as the artist.
 
forming a bond and having more attention: 
When you are apart of an indie record label , there a fewer artist in the label in comparison to major record label. This gives the artist to form a relationship with peers and team , so that the label feels more like family than a business environment. Furthermore Artist can receive more attention from their team to improve their own music and can learn from others in the label. 

Disadvantages:
Even though the environment of a indie record label may be better than major label , you cannot disregard the fact that in a large majority of ways , major record label excel in certain aspects where indie labels cant For example. 

Promotion: 
The promotion of artist in indie record label are poor compared to major. The factor contributing to this is that many indie records have very little to none recognition , or not a fantastic reputation.  Due to this promotion of artist songs wont reach a large amount of the general public like major record label would.

equipment: When you are signed to a indie record label , the artist should not expect to have high quality equipment like top producers in the music industry such as , Dr dre , Timberland , Pharrell Williams. Most records labels get loans from major record labels, consequently the don't not a large amount of money to spend high quality equipment.

 B.A.D RECORDS is an independent record label from south east London , who was founded by LV and shades ( a group of teenagers) , two aspiring musicians. The record label was established early this year , and has begun to build a foundation in south east london. Up and coming artist such as , Kamara Tee , LV , Shadez , KR and other artist. I believe B.A.D records is a good record label for artist to sign to because they are ambitious and only strive for success. Due to the fact of the record label
containing teenagers , its a fun environment apart , as they love sharing ideas and their talents to improve their craft ( work they produce).

GB RECORDS is an independent record label from south east London , who was founded by Corleone , a recording artist who successfully positioned himself in uk underground rap scene. Growing up Corleone was surrounded by jungle and hip hop music which gave him inspiration to pursue music as career. Corleone rose to fame in London in 2014 , with in debut single " Poor little rich kid" featuring Snap Capone , which gained over 700,000 views on Youtube, and was later aired on BBC radio 1xtra's rap show Charlie sloth.

Artist that are signed to the label are , Deefundo , Dis , Maurice and Tyler and more. These young artist have accomplished many things which other new artist have not in the uk. These artist have performed in many events , such as Tim west wood , BBC radio 1xtra , and more. This record label has a strong foundation of teamwork , ambition , support , promotion and management which many indie records tend to fail in.

Once they have hit a certain amount of views or go viral record label will notice them and offer the artist a deal. An example of this is Justin Bieber who got discovered through youtube by an manger and was signed to RBMG records in 2008. He then released his first  debut E.P  my world.


Another way is to work your through the industry. Artist can do this by collaborating with different artist, or doing different jobs in the industry , such as song writing for artist , or producing and composing song for recording artist. As you demonstrate your talent in the industry the will invest more into the musicians talents , and provided the musician with more contacts until they get discovered by a record label.
