These seem like some great ideas. I just wanted to throw out there (and it may be semantics) using the word fitness for exercise I thought about that after I used exercise in my own brainstorm.

I like the healthy cooking, but am curious how cooking and 4th to 6th graders might work in a safety component. Perhaps preparing healthy meals and we give them training on preparing meals that don't require adult supervision. The perhaps for dinner we provide some type of kid and adult cooking lesson. Just a thought...

Camper interactions... another avenue might be google chats or skype sessions so groups can get actual face time.

Assessment....great question... I think that is a hard one especially virtually. It could be multiple assessment components like some type of fit challenge using their step counter (like fit bit) and for the nutrition component creating a day of healthy recipes.

I like how Christina, you tied My Fitness Pal into your brainstorm. I hadn't thought about that but it brings in both the nutrition and fitness and can be shared, so this might be a great way to connect virtually.

I also like how you thought about dividing the participants based on their goals.

All good points. Maybe instead of healthy cooking we replace with healthy snacking?? Avoid cooking all together.

Also agree with keeping it to the word fitness.

As far as assessment, we could keep it VERY simple with like a survey monkey quiz just for feedback . I figure we don't want to leave it out just because its a big part of the ID process.

Next week we have to do the actual project plan. I envision this being a lot of work. We might want to start gearing our brainstorming ideas to that. Don't think it would be wise to wait until the end of next week to begin, unless we want to do some type of chat?

PS - Kim did you submit the link on BB? Can't tell if your last activity when I try to submit is referring to your submission

Kimberly, I really like how you included mental health in your brainstorming. I think this is an important part to leading a healthier lifestyle. We may want to consider adding something---like a virtual support group or a way to check in and provide validation for what the individuals who are participating are doing.

In regards to the thought around cooking---it would depend on the target audience. I am not sure the average 4th through 6th grader would ever be responsible for cooking themselves something. Why don't we change the focus off cooking and move it towards making healthier choices. I remember being at school and going into the lunch line just to get snacks. When I went to middle school, you could get a Snapple out of the vending machine, and anything from ice cream to chips to curly fries in the snack line. No one was there telling me how to spend my $2 daily. Maybe giving children tools to make a better choice when they are left to their own devices would be beneficial.

Stephanie: I like your idea about the different learning modules. I know I read some back and forth on the wording for exercise vs. fitness. I think exercise is the broader term and should be used. There are so many ways one can exercise....however one's fitness level might vary.

I also liked your ideas for gamification. I don't often get to work with older students but I do know that they are motivated by challenges. I think we should use that. I like the idea of step counter challenges, earning badges for completing daily logs.

For assessment: my thoughts are.....if the camper's goal is to lose weight, then the assessment should be tracking the weight loss. I was a part of a virtual Biggest Loser. I had to take a picture of my feet on the scale and send it to the woman who organized it every Sunday morning. She would calculate the percent lost and update the rankings. Maybe something similar can be done
