         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Artist/Artwork (title)/Date: </strong>Friendship Quilt made for Ella Maria Deacon 1842&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Lesson Idea:</strong> Each student has something that they think identifies them. Provide each student with a small fabric square and instruct them to use felt, paint, and markers to depict who they are or what they enjoy doing. Have each student write a description of who they are (name, favorites, family, etc.).Once all students complete the project connect the squares and make a quilt to hang up in the classroom to show who is in your class.</div><div><strong>Key Concepts/Vocabulary addresses:</strong> Key concepts explored are shape and self identity</div><div><strong>Materials Explored: </strong>fabric, felt, markers, paint</div><div><strong>Cross-curricular connections: </strong>English</div><div><strong>Important historical events happening at the time of creation (if applicable):</strong></div><div>Made in an era when communication and travel required significant time and effort, the quilt may have served as a farewell gift on the eve of the recipient's marriage and ensuing move.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
