This is a kind of weapon which is made by wood, metal and shell. I haven’t seen a weapon like this in real life or virtual games. Thus it attracted my attention. I have seen plenty of antic stuff in Pera Museum. Some of them has got long information. But this hasn’t got. So I thought about the usage of it. In my opinion it used to catch fish. Because there are hooks on it and only a fish can fit between hooks. Furthermore there is a shell on the weapon. I think it means that people used this weapon nearby water: sea, ocean, river etc.

I visited the 16th Istanbul Biennial, which aims to raise awareness by using art, one of the most powerful ways of communication in the world. I learned a lot from this biennial that discusses the relationship between art and ecology. Every year, a trillion plastic bags were used and disposed all over the world. These wastes first reach the water and then from the water to the rivers, from the rivers to the seas and from there to the oceans. There is a continent of waste accumulated in the oceans. These wastes affect more than seven hundred species. After I learnt this information, I made a promise to myself. I will reduce my plastic usage.
ÖZDEN YÜKSEK

I visited the Biennial which shows environmental problems ,actually plastic deposition. These plastics created a new continent. It's a big problem for humans. This biennial awareness people for this problem but people did this continent because of their selfishness. This area is defined by scientists , they called ''Large Pacific Garbage Patch'' . Some Turkısh and foreign artists want to reflect this trouble and I think they achieved. Now it include 1.2 million plactic sample and they threat 700+ species. We have to reduce using plastic and protect our world.

It is a big threat for us, for living species. This biennial is organized for raise people's awareness
about this problem.Biennial combines art and ecology. It takes people's attention by using art and ı think it's a great idea! I wasn't know
about this problem before ı heard about biennial. At the biennial there is 25 country,56 artists and more than 220 pieces. In there, there was
a lot of interesting stuff. One of them was a mask covered with mussels which is made by Simon Starling. Also ı saw some interesting paintings.
As ı understand they are mention about people's loneliness in the world they created. There is a man at the middle of the concrete buildings.
Everything looks cold, lifeless.I hope that 7th Continent will be a big lesson for us.We still have a time to stop this destruction.
Zeynep Alan

The Seventh Continent defines art as an anthropology that explores human influences, the paths it follows, the traces it leaves, and its interaction with non-human beings. The biennial is based on a huge pile of waste in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, one of the most visible results of the Anthropocene era with global warming. In the popular science, the inci Seventh Continent 3,4 consists of a pile of plastic, weighing 3.4 million square kilometers and weighing 7 million tons. This event, where human wastes bring a new continent to the world in the middle of the ocean, constitutes a starting point for the 16th Istanbul Biennial to explore the current state of art with many artists, thinkers, anthropologists and environmentalists in the face of ecological problems.

The subject of this year's biennial was the 7th continent. The Seventh Continent is composed of a pile of plastics weighing 7 million tons, 3.4 million square kilometers in width. isn't that scary? This may be officially the most visible thing mankind has done. The biennial includes the works of many artists, thinkers, anthropologists and environmentalists. I think this is the best biennial in a long time. Where one is officially confronted with himself and the consequences of his actions. This exhibition will drive people to think. I felt shocked while visiting the biennial. I was very touched and thought. The works were purely craftsmanship and very meaningful. More than 220 works of 56 artists from 25 countries are on display. I added a photo of my favorite work.

ECE YILDIRIM

Kübra Aktepe
Biennale is cultural or art events occuring every two years. Turkey has organised an International İstanbul Biennial since 1987. 16th Biennial is going to happen between 14 September-10 November. Nicolas Bourriaud is an author and academics who is this year's bienneal's curator. The name of 16th Biennial is The Seventh Continent. Because of the human activities 7 million tones of plastic is floating in the Pasific Ocean. The name of huge mass of waste is 7th continent.

There are 7 sculptures on this photo. Johannes Büttner shows violence through these sculptures. In my opinion, concrete black mixed human bodies that stand upside down look horrible. It represents the lost soul of humanity. According to my beliefs, humans were made of soil, now they are becoming concrete. They are losing the qualities that make them human.
