1. With 904 students failing one or more classes on the first IPR, GVJH RTI Group will invite students furthest away from the educational justice system to participate in six week cycles to improve academic progress, utilizing the AVID Strategies of organization, goal setting, and collaboration.
2. Tutoring is going well! We have one big elective class (32 students!) and 4 tutors, so I'm still running my own group - but my kids were eager to start and having the support of two years with the process under their belts is really helping them find success. We've been utilizing breakout rooms and OneNote for this process which has gone smoothly so far, but we also eased into it even after tutors began so that students would feel more comfortable. We are only running sessions during our Friday synchronous block, with an optional window beginning on Mondays soon.
3. How to we work towards finding the means to implement some of those more traditional aspects of AVID that are more difficult to do in a virtual setting?

We adjusted from 2 - 30 minute sessions (Mon & Fri) to Thursday's only. Attendance was lower on Mondays, It eliminated the additional welcome and wrap up providing more time. So far so good otherwise. Our Tutors created their own links via Teams and students are navigating smoothly!
3. What is working for you all to connect with kids?

We have been doing a lot of practice with the different elements that make up the virtual tutorial process.
Question: None at this time

1) Strengthen the students overall academic performance in light of the challenging situations of this year and in preparation for high school and beyond
2) Slow and frustrating. We're really far behind on almost everything so tutorials have been hard to get going so far
3) Is AVID really going to continue at the junior high? Next year I can see the kids who were into last year as 7th graders wanting to do it, but after that it is tough to imagine building a strong program from recruiting 9th graders who have never done it before.

1. Our AVID goal for the year is to focus on increasing participation during synchronous live sessions. We have been looking at creative ways to encourage our students to turn on their cameras during sessions and to provide meaningful formative assessments using the technology tools that are available such as flipgrids, Schoology test/ quizzes/ discussion threads, and using the digital calendars within Office 365.
2. Tutoring is getting better as weeks progerss. Our tutors all have their Teams link and students are pre-assigned a group that they automatically join. TRFs are done in OneNote, and the session are recorded so the kids have the chance to look at sessions later on if they need to.
3. Just to make sure...JH are still doing certification as "Middle Schools", correct?

1. AVID Goal: Continue having each department goal be focused on AVID/WICOR strategies, along with strengthening focused note taking across disciplines. In regards to online learning this year specifically, working on collaboration strategies to strengthen relationships between students & with their teachers.
2. Tutorials: We have been incredibly lucky at Rogers to have consistency with our tutors the past 6 years, and that has strengthened our program significantly. We have spent these first few weeks with tutorials just focused on reconnecting and building relationships in their small tutorial groups, which has provided really positive feedback from both kids & tutors.
3. No questions :)

1) Goal - Leadership - build capacity within our building so that we are implementing AVID strategies in every classroom for every student.
2) Tutoring has been going well. Week 1 was difficult figuring out break out rooms there were so hiccups tech wise (to be expected), now we have figured out a system. The biggest thing is making sure TRFs are turned in on time so that we can get the breakout rooms created and communicate that with students PRIOR to class starting. Our AVID elective teachers worked with students to develop expectations/consequences of not having TRFs prepared prior to tutorials.
3) How can we use AVID strategies to support DL 2.0 and all students within our current restraints.
