My reaction is that her family tree is either incorrect or just not right/unusable and her father may have told her false information on her family tree to protect her from maybe a secret. This is an important quote and I think it will some way connect to the title and therefore the rest of the book later on, towards the end. My reaction on this is that her father cares about her that he would do anything to protect her like it said earlier in the book that he would sacerfice himself so his family is not in danger.  My reaction towards this quote is that since they are calling people from where she lives the  war is getting closer to where they live and I think they are not winning and need more troops. My reaction to this is surprised that Yuriko-chan would listen to the music too and that her friend that seemed very kind, sweet, and nice would break rules like that when there could be harsh punishments since it is a law. This is surprising and good because Sumiyo-san has been so kind to Yuriko-chan and it would be happy and good for papa getting his mind off his old wife who past away. And that the 'aunt" she hates aunt Kikimo is really her mother.
  This made me very surprised since the whole time she is so close to "papa" so for him to be her grandfather was just crazy. I never expected this to happen and that is why it is so interesting 
and intrigan. Also if she was lied to her whole life it surprised me that he would straight out tell her the truth.  My reaction on this is that is so hard and sad for especially Wantabe-san since now has no one since both husband and son had past in war. It confused me why she did not burst into tears. Also the reaction of Machiko sad, silent, and sorry for Machiko was expected but I thought it would be worse. This is very hard for Machiko and Yuriko since they never get to see each other anymore. Also now that Machiko has the day off to go to Yuriko to the Cherry Blossom Festival, but at the end of the night papa tells his family they much move farther away from the war and from this town so they are safe. Now they are living with their cousin and Yuriko feels sad and lonely and gets angry more often. This is most likly since she does not have Machiko and papa with her. The setting change I think and am reacting is negativily affecting her because she is nervous for her "father" papa/ grandfather and Machiko with the war and work.
