This was created to provide funding for schools who have a high percentage of students from low income families. This is to support these families with programs to help them be successful in school.

What components in the Texas Education Code and/or Texas Administrative Code drive a CIP/CNA?

The Texas Education Code is what drives a campus improvement plan.
According to the Texas Education Code, each school district should organize and create plans to show progress year after year. Districts are required to create these plans since they are being funded. Principals meet with a campus level committee to review and the needs of the campus. In turn, they will create their Campus Improvement plan based on those needs. The Improvement Plan must include academic achievement goals for each student in school. These goals should be SMART goals. The improvement plan should also include resources that are needed to help students become successful in these goals. Who is going to implement these goals and in what time will also be a component to this plan. How will the progress be measured will be an important factor as well. The improvement plan will also include how to get stakeholders involved if they weren't involved already.

First you look at the data from the previous year based on STAAR results or any other testing needing. Another important source of data will be the School report card from the previous year. The principal along with a campus level committee will create the CIP. The CNA is usually a group effort by all the teachers and staff who contribute to the yearly goals of the campus. The core content teachers will create an organizer that focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of the year based on their content.

I think for the most part, the CIP focuses on families and the well being of students at the school and their goal to get them to and through college. However, I believe that the CIP misses the data point about math and reading scores. I believe that the campus should focus on those two content areas since they are continuous year after year.

This includes STAAR data and any surveys conducted throughout the year.

The Effective Schools Framework is used for campus' to organize their strategic plans by using a clear vision. The Framework includes 5 levers.
1st Lever - Strong School Leadership and Planning. This focuses on the leadership on the campus and if they are being coached to support teachers. Providing leaders with training and professional development to ensure that they are doing what is best for the campus is a part of lever 1.
2nd Lever - Effective, Well-Supported Teachers. This focuses on teachers who need support through professional development in areas that they struggle with. This will ensure that students are being taught by professionals who will help them progress.
3rd Lever - Positive School Culture. This encourages that the environment of the school is a positive learning environment for all students.

4th Lever - High-Quality Curriculum. When instruction is not preparing the students, curriculum needs to be changed. Every three years or so a campus will switch their curriculum to prove that they are doing what they need to do in order to show progress.
5th Lever - Effective Instruction is ensuring that teachers are trained to teach the curriculum and supported by their administration.
