After reading this story, I don't see too many ways that this text relates to my life. The one thing that does relate to my life would be the actions of the son, Through this story he is constantly trying his best to memorize the lines for his play. I too participate in plays. I feel like part of this little boys goals is to make his parents proud. I can also relate to that as I try to make my family proud as well. Another way I can relate to this text is the personality of the mother. I see the mother as a kind woman who wants the best for her son. I feel as though I too am kind and I want the best for those around me.

The text was different than my life is many ways. One way being the setting, For example, Haiti has quite the tropical climate, making it very warm on the daily. The people in Haiti are also very different. "Haitian parents are strict, but are very affectionate"(Blair). This is clearly seen in this reading as the boys dad clearly cares much for him, but he is also quite strict with the rules and how the child can talk to his superiors. In my life, I wouldn't say my parents aren't strict, but they most definitely aren't nearly as strict as the parents in this story.

This text has affected me greatly, as it has touched my heart like no other text. To read what families will do provide for their children is heartbreaking. At the very end of the story, the dad of this poor child felt the need to end his life because he was just never good enough. He had finally gotten the opportunity to live out one of his dreams ad he felt the best way to die would be while accomplishing something. This kills my heart because I believe no matter what, nothing is worth ending your life over. I have struggled with not feeling good enough, but after reading this I now realize ending your life is never worth it. No matter what you'll always end up leaving someone behind. In this case, the dad left his wife and child behind.

I have now become very interested in Haiti and the realities of this location. After reading the text, I want to research more about Haiti and the situation they are in. I would like to be able to read more from other sites to get a full grasp on the reality of what is happening in Haiti. I have become much more concerned about how hard life is there and I feel very bad for everything they have to go through. Before reading this I never thought twice about this given subject matter. After reading it, however, I truly have become more interested because of the fear I have for what's going on.

This text gave me an opportunity to read in depth what the reality of what certain foreign countries look like. I've always heard about how rough they had it and how hard everything was, but I never knew it could drive on to suicide. This text has made me think about what really goes on and how unfair our word can be. It also makes me thankful to live where I live. This text has also opened my eyes to see that everything is different all around the world. So many different things are happening all around the globe, some of which we don't even know its currently happening until its too late.
