In high school, I would always write last minute papers and would never revise them. I found out quickly in undergrad that this was not the best strategy. Now that I am writing more technical and scientific pieces, I am still struggling to be cohesive, yet concise. I enjoy metaphors, flowing descriptive imagery, and attempts at humor. I find that I write best in pieces with lots of revision.

Over time I began to understand it better and it became more fun. Now I use my writing to help me understand life better. Keeping a journal and reflecting on everyday life, or moments that seem important has helped me understand my writing as well as the thought process behind it. Writing has also given me the foundation to make active changes, and steer the direction of my life by putting my thoughts on paper in a clear and visible way. What I have not yet mastered however, is the habit of prewriting and editing. I tend to sit down and write everything all at once and rarely revisit it. But I have found that in order to strengthen and improve my writing then it is a must to take more time and be patient with writing. Having someone peer edit the paper would also come in handy, and can greatly improve my writing by allowing me to analyze a paper through the shoes of another.

If it is only a 1-3 page paper I don't need that much time, but anything more I need a lot of time. I do not prewrite that much, but I do right the papers that I am creating all at once. I am not one to put a paper together piece by piece because I feel like I could mess up on the organization of the paper. But, once the paper is complete, my revision process is just to have someone look over it and just take their notes from how they thought of my paper. This is all I ask for when I begin the revision process.

Although english may not be my favorite class, it is not my worst/most hated class (math). Sometimes I enjoy writing essays especially those essays where i can voice my own opinions and make my own argument. Writing is a skill I consider to be extremely important, and one that can potentially determine employment status for someone. When it comes to the act of writing I tend to not excel in it. I usually always need a lot of time to write papers because it can be very difficult to come up with ideas that are credible. Even when I have my ideas in order a lot of the time my grammar needs revision and polishing. Informative or research based writing is probably my favorite type of writing. I love being able to express my knowledge on a topic that I have researched and mastered. Since writing can be difficult I do tend to write in pieces, but I don't often prewrite my papers. And often times I will have others read my work and correct it for me before I turn it in.

I tend to have a lot of ideas, but keep forgetting that I need to stick to the main point and get to the purpose of the paper clearly. Once I start a paper, I try to break it up into different parts to focus on each day.
