The problem with farm run off is that there are chemicals in cows in particular urine and faeces that contaminates the water. The chemicals enter the cows through sprays and fertilizers put on the paddocks and other food sources, the cows then consume this and it enters their digestive system. These chemicals are mainly phosphates and nitrates.

The main problem with plastic is the that they're not biodegradable. This means that they do not break down into the earth very easily. This is a problem because when people throw away their plastic rubbish into the water, it floats at the surface, and animals think it is food, so they eat it. Bottle tops and other bit of plastic can get wedged in an animals throat, and then they die. People have found dead birds and fish on the beach, with plastic bottle tops and other bits of rubbish in their stomachs. Plastic also gets wrapped around birds necks and wings, and fishes fins and tails. There are also animals that live in the ocean that think that plastic bags are jellyfish, they swim up to the plastic bag and eat it. once the animal swallows the bag it stays in their stomach, as the plastic can not be digested or carry on through the digestive system.

Eutrophication happens when nitrates leak into the surrounding environment. It can have serious consequences environmental consequences. When nitrates move into groundwater, lakes and rivers they cause rapid and excessive growth of plants, algae and plankton. Sudden growth of these plants in a body of water means that the oxygen level drops. This suffocates other things living in the water and water clarity drops, which in turn cuts aquatic plants off from sunlight.

When algae and other organisms die, their decay causes development of toxic microorganisms. Over time,
biodiversity within the ecosystem declines and the water becomes unfit for human consumption or recreation. Improving the quality of such degraded ecosystems is a lengthy and difficult process.

There are a lot of ways to help reduce the amount of plastic waste that goes into the ocean, here are some of them:

Don't just throw your rubbish away. All of the rubbish that you just throw into the river, will end up in the ocean. You can help to reduce this by putting your rubbish into a bin, or you can recycle your rubbish.

Pick up rubbish if you see any. If you are taking a nice walk along the beach and you see some rubbish in the sand, pick it up.

When nitrates leak into its surroundings is called eutrophication. If nitrates reach fresh water it makes the plants grow a lot in a short amount of time. It also causes many more plants to grow that weren't there in the first place. When the plants grow rapidly they must consume more oxygen to survive and therefore take lot more oxygen from the water leaving less for any other organism and eventually after sometime they may consume it all. When oxygen levels drop it can call all living things to die and the water can become a lot dirtier which blocks out sunlight which also can kill some plants. When aquatic plants decay they develop toxic microorganisms and after time
