Because neither man is an expert on the country, they chose the 38th parallel, a border that was initially proposed at the Potsdam Conference, after failing to locate any evident natural barrier between the North and the South. Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, is located in the American zone, although only 35 miles south of the dividing line.

June 25, 1950- The Korean War officially begins with heavy artillery fire from the North. Approximately 100,000 North Korean troops cross the 38th parallel, and despite being forced back, South Korean forces leave in excellent order.

Because the Nationalist government on Taiwan still has China's seat on the Security Council, the Soviets, who might have vetoed the resolution, are boycotting the proceedings. The following day, Seoul falls.
July 10, 1951- At Kaesng, peace talks between the UN and the communists begin. The talks do not, however, signal the end of the conflict; fighting will continue for another two years. The peace negotiations will be moved to the village of Panmunjom in October.

Two examples of large conflicts would be the Korean and Vietnam Wars. the Korean war semi encompassed what the Cold War was about to stop/ slow the spread of communism. In 1945 was the official separation of Korea.
