Some KCD/Vikings crew kicked their HT off with a super early start at the Pink is Punk swim run at the Anantara on the Palm💦 🏊‍♀️ 🏃🏻‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

Oscar Munnery and Chloe Steyl competed in the Open 12-15 category (200m sea swim, 800m run).

Beliz, Liam, Flossie and Lucia took part in the competitive races against students from DESS, JESS, DIA, DBS, and JPS (100m sea swim, 600m run).

1st place for Oscar and Lucia in their races.

A special mention for Oscar who must have been the 30th out of the water, who then did a blistering run to pass everyone and take the win. Look at the size of the 15 year old boys he beat!! 🔥⚡️🔥⚡️

A successful day for the U15 Team. Finishing 6th out of 15 🔥

Had we had had our missing 4 other players… who knows where we could have finished 👀 A big shout out to Augustina if you see her this week. She massively stepped up, having not properly played netball and did her best! I’d say she genuinely saved the day by giving the rest of our girls the breaks they needed.
Liv- played about 3 different positions in each third of the court, excelling in any scenario given to her 👏👏 resulting in winning POTM 3 times out of 6.

Jouer! Jouer! Jouer! The U16 boys put on a spectacle today at fortress KCD. By combining the perfect blend of flair and physicality they ran out winners against a very physical WSO side with big strong lads. A slow start saw the boys trailing 12-0 after the first 15 minutes. Two quick tries at the end of the first half saw the momentum swing in our favour and we were able to see out the match, running in 5 very well worked tries. Who needs route 1 rugby when you can fizz the ball about!

Life is like a rugby ball, you never know which way it’s going to bounce. Today saw the ball bounce in our favour as the U16 Boys Rugby team put in a dogged performance against local rivals Repton Dubai. The boys showed some excellent heart and grit throughout the game, displaying some excellent go forward and a real “never say die” attitude defending their line after a frantic last minute of the game.

The U’12s entered the tournament full of confidence following a successful DASSA season.

Despite being placed in a difficult group with DESC and JESS, the team showed tremendous courage and played some fantastic rugby to progress into the plate competition. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be in the plate narrowly losing to Repton and Jebal Ali.

Despite the result, we managed to score some fantastic tries in each of our games. Plenty of positives to take and lessons learnt for the inexperienced team from this mornings tournament.

Saturday 02/03 - U’14 Dubai College 10’s

With many of the regular squad unavailable this afternoon, the team that represented Kent College can hold their heads up high and be proud of the brave performances on display today. Each member of the squad played every single minute of every game.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be narrowly losing to Jebal Ali (14-12), NAS (14-0) and a third defeat to JESS in the group stages. A plate semi final was to follow against Repton with Repton claiming a 14-7 victory.

Tremendous effort and courage shown all afternoon by the group and some phenomenal individual performances which caught the eyes of many on the sidelines.

U16 Boys Rugby at DC 10s

A day of small margins. We started the tournament well, beating Jebel Ali 15-14, setting a positive tone for the day. We came against a slick BSAK who scampered a few tries early doors and we were unlucky to get back into the game, losing 22-7. Then, due to an unfavorable points difference, we were placed in the Bowl semi-final, where we faced NAS. It was a blistering game with the ball going to all parts of the field. At full time it was 15 - 15, with it going down to 'Golden Try'. NAS were awarded a questionable penalty and converted into a victory.

The boys played immensely well and should be proud of how they conducted themselves. A special mention to Will Joyner and Matt Edkins who stepped up an age group who covered for a few key players who were on Duke of Edinburgh.

Having led for the majority of the game, the boys weren’t able to close out the game despite some excellent play and some unlucky shots just missing. Bounce back ability……… The U14 boys bounced back from last week’s 1 point loss to win by 1 point this week against GEMS International School. After failing to get off the bus for the first 2 quarters we saw ourselves down by 8 at half time. A free scoring third quarter saw us take the lead and the boys put in a shift on defence late in the 4th to run out 50-49 winners.

“You have to have the mentality of executing your game when you don't feel like there's a lot of hope. I think the best feeling is when somebody pushes you to the limit and you dig down a little bit extra. By the same token, you also need a little luck. Sometimes they come together."

Our boys took on a strong Mustang team, who were sharp in all 3 areas of the game. We were put into bat with Dev and Ishaan getting us off to a flying start. Both boys were retired at 40, with Alex and Samaveer getting us to a respectable score of 132. GEMS Metropole came out strong and knocked off our score within 10 overs.

U13 Boys Basketball

Lessons learned the hard way will stick with you forever. A tough day out for the U13 boys basketball team at the Dubai School Games competition. The boys started brightly with a 14-11 win in the first game, and then were unlucky to lose 15-9 in the final group game. This left us runners up in Group D. Then came a tough quarter final against the winners of Group C and the boys narrowly went down 16-12. The boys can hold their heads up high as they showed grit and determination throughout and they can take the lessons learned today throughout the rest of the season.

U15 Girls Basketball

Drama at the death. The U15 girls basketball team walk away from Dubai Schools Games with the bronze medal 🥉 The first game of the day saw the girls cruise to a 16-6 win over GWEK, and then they ground out a 10-7 win in our final pool game against AKINS. The momentum continued in the quarter finals as we won 26-18 against GLSD. The semi final saw us come up against our toughest challenge yet against MTS and, despite some excellent play, we lost 21-10. The team picked themselves back up after semi final defeat and now concentration was turned to the 3rd place playoff against AKINS. With the scores tied 11-11 after normal time, we head into golden point overtime. Despite having multiple shots to win the game in overtime, some excellent tenacity in defence allowed us to get the ball up court to Carolina who finished the winning layup. An excellent day out all round for the girls and it’s great to see their hard work rewarded with some silverware 💪

The U14 boys showed composure today whilst cruising to a 51-31 victory over Repton. The boys took the lead early on and continued to stretch their advantage throughout. 10/10 hustle on defence allowed us to get a lot of ball and then we converted our chances efficiently (minus some open layups being missed!!!). This is a great platform for those boys playing in the DSG tournament tomorrow.

A day of close calls. The U14 boys crash out of the Dubai School Games basketball tournament in the quarter finals. The boys started with two difficult pool games, winning 20-18 against GWA and then 18-17 against WSO. A quarter final against SIMS saw the team come unstuck with some good 3 point shooting, and we lost 28-26. The boys can hold their head up high as some excellent basketball was played and they can use this as motivation to see out the rest of the DASSA league fixtures.

After a slow start and trailing 8-2 within the first few minutes of the first quarter, the boys grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and coasted to victory.

Having taken the lead early on, the boys showed composure and prowess to ease to victory. This caps off an excellent season for the boys which has seen them grow from strength to strength and they are in an excellent place to play up in the U16 competition next year 💪

The U19 boys kicked off their basketball campaign today at home to DESC. Whilst rain tentatively fell outside, our boys weren't afraid to make a splash on the court running out 58-13 winners. Whilst there was some work-ons, this was a good first step in what will hopefully be a successful season.

Having finished level at the end of the 4th quarter, the girls managed to emerge victorious with a 20-17 win in overtime. Similar to the boys game yesterday, there was lots of positives and some work-ons but everybody played a vital part in grinding out a good result!

Hometown heartbreak...... The U16A Boys Basketball team suffered a gut wrenching 36-34 defeat in their first game of the season against Universal American School. The first two quarters were played with excellent energy with the boys and the fans creating an electric atmosphere in the KCD cauldron. The third quarter slipped away from us and despite a great fight back in the fourth, it just wasn't our day. This will be a bitter pill to swallow for the team but they will be all the stronger for it and come back fighting next week!

The boys averaged last weeks defeat with a hugely improved performance away at King’s Nad Al Sheeba. We were patient in our build up play producing some lovely pass and move interchanges. With better finishing we could have had more.

Oliver Perryman was the star of the show scoring 4 goals as we ran out 5 nil winners. And unlike his beloved Tottenham Hotspurs we managed to hold onto our lead.

With Mr Vivian keen to get revenge after the U16 loss last Thursday, the boys battled hard and despite being up by 7 points at the start of the 4th quarter, they ended the game losing 25-22. Big shout out to Eissa who had a great debut game scoring valuable points and showing great tenacity on D.

Our U15 BSME & BSAK Squad and a mixed U16B team played against the UK Touring School Mill Hill.

An incredibly close and tight game for the squad with a final result of 19-15 (loss). For the B’s the final score was a significant loss 33-6 after a very promising close first quarter (4-2) which all came down to fitness . It was fiesty and tough but the girls battled through.

With the first 2 games of the season both ending in 1 point defeats, the U16A Boys Basketball Team picked up their first win of the season today against Repton Dubai. The boys stepped onto the court focussed and determined to put those previous results in the rearview mirrors and raced off to a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The team showed discipline and poise to keep the intensity high and ran out 42-30 winners. This game shows a great mindset instilled in the squad to take losing as a learning opportunity and reap the rewards from it. This will be the first big step in an already encouraging season!

The U11 Boys Rugby team kicked their rugby season off yesterday with their first tournament held at Brighton College. Despite this being the first time the team has played all together this season, the boys showed great organisation and played some excellent rugby. Strong carries with the ball combined with some excellent skills at the breakdown led to us drawing 2 games and winning the final game.

Today, words cannot describe what a team these 5 players are.

Arriving after school to find out only 5 of them are playing was not ideal. 1 player pulled out 5 minutes before. 2 players were on another event - without me knowing in advance. They’re top of the table in their competitive division.
They had 2 options:
1. Risk it play with 5 players. Work their socks off for a win.
2. Go and forfeit the game but play with 5 players

The troopers they are, option 1 was the only choice in our minds.
With little to zero rotation on the court and a final score of 24-21, we WON!! I am so proud of these girls. Parents were absolutely amazed with how well they played.

Who led the girls to victory. The bus route to the game was filled with set plays. ‘What if’ moments discussed as well as positive quotes.

Our U12 and two U14 Development Netball Teams had a fantastic day today! The girls showcased a number of netball skills, demonstrated good movement on the court, and put in an incredible effort while playing in various positions. A huge well done to all the players—especially the 17 who experienced their first-ever netball tournament. Gaining this level of exposure was an invaluable opportunity! Our U14A team lost very closely in the bowl final to Deira International School. Well done girls!

For some of these girls, this was their last game ever for KCD. While today wasn’t our day for victory, it’s the countless other moments that truly matter.

For some, Mrs Butler has had the privilege of coaching them for the past five years, and together we’ve shared so many incredible experiences.

Tonight, it was special to step back and simply watch the players embrace the joy of the game. Nujud’s incredible reach in defense, Maya’s quick movement up and down the court, AJ’s sharp shooting and Grace’s lightning-fast pace—each player brought something unique to the team.

We hope the Year 12 girls of this team carry forward this love for sport into the future and continue to thrive next year as their fellow teammates have done this year too. Well played Ladies 👏👏👏

Cool, calm, collected. The U12 boys continued on their winning streak today with another win over GEMS Winchester. The boys started strong and raced to a good lead by the end of the first quarter. Throughout the game the boys grew in confidence went from strength to strength, even with the big boss in the stands. Very solid defensive plays combined with players scoring at will allowed us to ease to a 59-26 victory.
