         <title>Storytelling - TB2 W6 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One method that I found useful was the use of storytelling, through the art of Indian dance theatre techniques. This helped me to develop my storytelling skills through gestures and emotions, as well as building my character development. As I am a naturally expressive performer, this practice has further enhanced how I engage my personality, as well as my facial expressions. For example, in the video compilations above, I am exploring the juxtaposition between the emotions of pride and sorrow. These are two emotions that make up the nine human emotions of the Indian aesthetic. Throughout this exploration, it pushed me to create movement outside of how I would typically choreograph when I am instructed to create contrast in a movement sequence. By the time I had finished exploring, my peers gave me some positive feedback. I was told that I had managed to capture everyone’s attention, my movements were powerful, and it was clear that I was enjoying myself. I maintained a strong presence, especially when I physically switched between pride and sorrow. This was extremely beneficial, as it gave me new ideas as to how to heighten the quality and engagement of my performance. From this task, I applied the same principles to my solo, as I was also planning on exploring the opposition between vanity and the concept of body image. Furthermore, I have also learned to take chances, and to not be too precious about what I choreograph and how good it looks. As everything is a process, I learned how to let go and follow whatever felt right in the moment, which i feel was reflected, especially in the beginning of the video. The sharp, jerky movements - especially my arms - were a product of me letting go of my choreographic restraints.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Immi and Vernique : Emotional Charades - TB2 W9</title>

These workshops included a warmup, followed by the creative task each pair came up with. One workshop in particular that stood out to me the most, was the workshop led by my peers, Imogen and Vernique. The nature of this workshop was based around the concept of ‘emotional charades’. They gave us a task where we had to choose an emotion to convey through movement of our choice, and the rest of our peers had to identify the emotions that were being conveyed. The emotion I chose was curiosity. To communicate this emotion, I switched between levels, alternating between moving closer to the floor and then higher up, as if I was looking for something. I moved in different directions, sometimes with speed, and other times at a slow pace, as if I am excited but unsure of what I am doing or looking at. This was another beneficial resource, as it reminded me of the storytelling workshop that I did. Through this workshop, I used my internal experiences and past memories to help convey curiosity, as drawing from internal sources has always been the most helpful way for me to choreograph. This workshop also provided me with new ways to think about how to convey emotions through my body, particularly through my facial expressions. This was a crucial aspect that stood out to me, as the concepts of my solo require full body conviction, and using my face to solidify them and capture my audience was something I strongly wanted to achieve.</div><div><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Movement Exploration - TB1 and TB2</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There were many different practices and methods that I used throughout the build up of my choreography portfolio. However, the most common - and often the most useful- method, is improvisation. One particular aspect that I referred back to is the use of a choreographic score. This was curated through the exploration of the body, action, space and dynamic movement. For me, improvisation is a means of problem - solving and exploring; it is a chance for me to tune in to how my body is feeling, and where my creativity is in the moment. There was one task in particular that provided me with a lot to refer back to, which is the session we had with Stephen. In this session, he gave us a movement task where he told us to explore movement through our individual limbs, and we had to bend, stretch and twist them. Adding on, he then instructed us to pick one body part to lead a random series of movement, to explore the physical options we have. This was a surprisingly helpful way of exploring, as it removed unnecessary pressure that I would put on myself when improvising. As improv is not my strongest skill when choreographing, this task came as a relief, as it allowed me to explore freely without putting too much thought behind it. This task then later evolved into a ‘structured improv task’, where we had to create a set phrase of movement that reflected the bending, stretching and twisting we were exploring. This was a positive impact on me as a choreographer, as I noticed that I had experienced less creative blockage compared to when I first started improvising. This was especially prominent when I was creating my solo, as there were times during the early stages where I was u sure of what creative direction I wanted to lead with, but after referring back to this task, as well as referring back to my peers and their own improvisational moments, I was able to add to my concepts and transfer them into movement that I liked.<br><br>Overall, from the beginning of the year, up until now, my confidence in my ability to choreograph has improved. This process has been a constant reflection of how well I can take on choreographic direction, as well as guide others to progress on their own choreographic paths. I feel that this has also been reflected in my group work as well, allowing me to assist in creative choices, as well as perform with new ways to communicate each choreographic intention.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
