It is about 90cm long and its colours vary . It becomes active during day but also at night , when the temperatures are high. Its habitats vary , but they mostly prefer sunny, dry and rocky slopes with a little vegetation. It likes climing on rocks and bushes. It mates in the end of spring and femaled give birth to 4-20 snake eggs in late August. It hibernates on October and wakes up on February-March . Its diet consists of small mammals, small birds , amphibians and lizards. It whistles when it believes it's threatened and coaxes in diffence. It bites if someone step on it or tries to caught it. The bite of Vivipera ammyodes is poisonous so medical treatment should be provided in case of a bite.
It can be found in Greece in Peloponesse, Cyclades & Ionian islands ,Thassos and maybe in Samothrace island.

Intergrated Taxonomic Information System
TSN 634985

Taxonomic Serial
No.: 634985

https://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=634985#null

My suggestion is to create a farm with reptiles, amphibians , insects, birds and small mammals . In my area where i temporarily live (Evros,Greece) exists a Forestry and Agricultural University. In cooperation with the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park and our local University's Students and Professors that are close this subject it could be possible to create an "artificial ecosystem". The farm will contain a place like a lab that we will keep , feed , fertilize, help reproduce some species and take care of the wounded ones . The "lab" won't be open for the public but the farm will be open to the public with certain opperation hours and a small -mostly symbolic- financial price in order to concerve the species . There is also going to be a shop for visitors . The shop will provide things such as books, eco bags, cups ,t-shirts and animal models with a planet friendly message that will remind to people how beautiful and important these species are. Also leaflets will be distributed. All the money will go fo the maintenance of the farm. In this way citizens will be sensitized and wil be more concious about species extinction. They will learn which species are venomous and which are totally harmless. Because one of the most intense problems in Greece is that people don't recognize the poisonous snakes and kill them all , poisonous or not.

The region is divided in two main geological zones: the northern zone, dominated by third degree ophiolite complexes that have undergone intense erosion and have formed a mild relief and the southern zone, where Paleogene volcanic and sedimentary rocks emerge, shaping a complex terrain with rocky outcrops.
The presence of reptiles and amphibiansat the National Park is very important as they constitute the basic food source for the birds of prey, the storks and the herons in the area. The number of amphibian species recorded is 13, ten of which are frogs, including the threatened Fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), while the other 3 are two newt species and the known Salamander (Salamandra salamandra). Furthermore, 29 species of reptiles have been recorded and more specifically, four turtle species, eleven lizard species and fourteen snake species, of which only the two vipers may be dangerous to humans. Frogs are the favourite food of storks, while the Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) prefers turtles and the Short-toed eagle (Circaetus gallicus) snakes.
