Vocabulary are the words we must know to communicate effectively.
Vocabulary is important when children are learning how to read because they use the words they know to make sense of the words that they see in print. Readers cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean (comprehension).
Instruction of vocabulary must include words that are learned indirectly, through everyday experiences both orally and written, such as being read to.
Instruction must also include words that are taught directly with specific instruction before reading that helps with comprehension. Extended instruction must also be included for active engagement and word learning, as well as repeated exposure where the new words are encountered often in various text.

Why is it important?: Text comprehension is important because without the ability to comprehend what you are reading, the sentence/passage makes no sense. Comprehension can increase ones understanding of text. Comprehension also helps children become more active readers because text comprehension helps them engage in meaningful reading.

Most effective when children are taught to manipulate phonemes by using letters of the alphabet. Small group activities is more effective. It is not a complete reading program. Phonemic awareness can be developed through a number of activities. Such as: identify phonemes, categorize phonemes, blend phonemes to form words, delete and add phonemes to form new words, substitute phenomes to make new words

1. What is it?
-Fluency is the reader's ability to read a text quickly and accurately. Fluency reading is an automatic process that requires readers to read effortlessly and with expression.
2. Why is it important
-Fluency acts as a bridge that connects reading abilities such as word recognition and comprehension.
3. Curriculum must include (this in instruction)
-Two fluency based instructional approaches were investigated. Instructional approaches include both repeated 'oral' reading and independent silent reading. The significance of repeated and monitored oral reading can substantially improve reading skills such as word recognition, speed, and accuracy. This approach focuses on a students reading and rereading passages (orally), while simultaneously providing guidance and corrective feedback. Additionally, research-based data has yet to prove or disprove whether independent reading with 'minimal' guidance or corrective feedback improves reading achievement and fluency.
