As an english speaking teacher in an urban setting with many second language students, I must promote social justice by removing language barriers for my families. I will ensure that translators are provided at parent events as well as having all school communications translated into students native language. I also want to focus on having meaningful face to face communication with parents by utilizing the translation app on our cell phones to provide a sense of engagement and belonging for all students and parents.

This work will include educating all staff members to be cultural responsive teachers. I will ask staff to examine his/her own biases and understand how those biases may impede and perpetuate racial and ethnic inequalities. We must all approach this work with humility, vulnerability, and the heart to change - growth will look like teaching practices adjusted so that all students in our classrooms can receive equitable and social responsive teaching.

We are teaching for the betterment of our youth and the empowerment of the individual, and we are teaching against the status quo.

Our growth will follow a trajectory that heads forward. It may not be a perfectly straight line, but a mathematician could find a line of best fit that shows us trending onward and upward.

Success looks like our schools rising above the masses, outperforming schools in our district, county, and state. Our students will be academically competitive at a national level. It will look like smiling faces, happy to be in school and eager to learn. Hope should shine on the faces of our entire school community: students, staff, parents, partners, and community members.
