How do salt crystals grow?

1) fill a tall glass or jar with water
2) put a pinch of salt into a tall glass or jar
3) stir salt in water until salt is dissolved
(4 optional) if you want to have coloured crystal then add two small drops of food colouring of your liking
5)tie a string to a pen or piece of cardboard and rest on top make sure that string is under water
6) wait about a week and lift pen or piece of cardboard up pick your biggest crystal this is what it will grow on
7) tie crystal up with very thin string such as sewing machine string and make shore that the crystal is just sitting in the water and now wait
8) by now crystals would have grown on the smaller one and in the end hopefully it should look like this

1) salt absorbs water because it is made with strong compound forces.

2) salt crystals are formed when sodium and chlorine
come together and bond.

3) salt crystals can grow with in minutes days weeks but it depends on the room your using hot, cold, wet, dry.

Once we have made the mixture we will put them some where dark and keep them there until the salt crystals have formed we'll pick the biggest crystal and grow more off that one crystal we'll each have our own jar

One problem we have come across is if you move the glass around that you might break off a molecule and cause the crystal to take longer to form

In conclusion our crystals still haven't grown so we are going to leave them to grow for the rest of the term
