Proclamation Line of 1763

The Proclamation Line of 1763 was a line drawn for the Native Americans by the British to prevent settlers encroaching on their land. This line was created at the end of the French and Indian War, with the goal to satisfy the Native Americans. The line separated the British colonies from the Native Americans' land west of the Appalachian Mountains. The Proclamation Line was the first measure put into effect that affected all thirteen colonies. The Proclamation resulted in three new colonies on the mainland: Quebec, West Florida, and East Florida. Georgia’s southern border was also extended. Soldiers who fought in the Seven Years War received land for their heroic work.

I chose a wrong way sign because the colonists kept moving towards settling in land that wasn’t theirs, as Native Americans kept saying to stop moving west and let them have their land.

The Stamp Act was proposed by Great Britain as a way to raise money for the military. This act required a stamp to be placed on every legal document, leases, licenses, deeds, newspapers, and things such as dice. The colonists viewed this as an economic strain and an attack on local liberty. This act is what led to the phrase “no taxation without representation.” This act also created the Stamp Act Congress in 1765, when colonists drew up a list of grievances and sent them to Parliament, which ended up being ignored, making the colonists even angrier. This act was eventually repealed in 1766.

I chose a one way sign for this event because every important document or piece of history could only continue to the recipient by gaining a stamp.

The Tea Act came in 1773, when Great Britain gave control of the tea trade to the East India Company. Once they gained control, the EIC added a tax to tea and halted it from moving past the ports in major cities across the colonies. This act is what fueled the anger for the Boston Tea Party.

I chose a construction worker sign because the East India Company stepped in and started to control the tea trade situation, similar to how a construction worker can slow traffic in order to prevent any incidents.

One night, the colonist boarded a ship and proceeded to dump 90,000 pounds of tea into the river, ruining them. This resulted in the British being upset and wanting the colonists to suffer for what they did.

I chose a wild animals sign because the colonists did what they did based on their anger from the Tea Act and did not think of the percussions.

The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th, 1770, when soldiers were being yelled at by protesters. They started to throw oyster shells, antagonizing the soldiers, along with snowballs and clubs. The soldiers had enough, and fired into the crowd, killing 5 and wounding 6. This was not a positive thing for Great Britain, as the Sons of Liberty used this for propaganda to get people involved in the war. All but two of the soldiers were acquitted, as they were represented by John Adams.

I chose the work zone sign because the soldiers were doing their job, which was keeping the area safe during protests. Then the protesters went to work and started throwing objects. This was a work zone for everyone.

The Quartering Act happened in 1765, when Great Britain decided their army deserved to be fed and cleansed by the colonists. Colonists were required to provide housing and supplies for British soldiers in the colonies if they needed it. By 1768, over 2,000 soldiers were quartered in Boston. The colonists felt this was a violation to them as they needed to work to feed more people than originally.

I chose a campsite sign because campsites are there because you move around. The soldiers did the same thing, as they moved from house to house depending on where they were stationed.

The Coercive Acts, also known to the colonists as the Intolerable Acts, were the repercussions of the actions of the Boston Tea Party. Great Britain closed the Boston Harbor, revoked parts of the Mass. charter, imposed British control over town government, imposed a new Quartering Act, and took away land by expanding the Canadian border. These being put into place led to the Continental Congress, who spoke up about the injustice occurring.

I chose a no outlet sign because the colonists brought the Coercive Acts upon themselves by completing the Boston Tea Party. Because they did this, Great Britain wanted revenge and they did this by putting some of the worst acts into place. The colonists had no way out, as the laws were too harsh to make anyone want to do something. If they did something else that was as violent as the tea party, consequences would be much worse.

The 1st Continental Congress came to be because of the Coercive Acts. The colonists had had enough, and they planned on reversing Britain’s harsh rules. In September of 1774, 12/13 colonies had delegates that came to meet and attempt to repeal the offensive acts. Georgia was the only one who did not attend. John Adams led the group because he wanted to sponsor the revolutionary cause against conciliatory measures.

I chose a railroad crossing sign because the British were progressing through their ruling of the colonies, and the continental congress crossed paths with them and blocked the British to tell them how they felt about the new acts that were imposed.

They crossed the Delaware River and took 2,000 men with him. They were able to capture 900 Hessians without losing a single soldier, due to the fact they caught them so off guard.

I chose a no U-turn sign because Washington had the option to turn around and wait until the day after Christmas, as that was the British custom for fighting, but he chose to keep going and it ended up paying off as the Brits were thrown off their game.

This war proved their ability to fight, as well as gain an ally in France, who also didn’t like Great Britain.
