<title>Time management will drive the schedule. Students will have to be good at managing their learning as the schedule becomes more flexible. Every subject will have to define time that is needed for different types of activities. </title>

<title>I have a friend whose job requires her to work from home 2 times a week. The 3 times they are in the office are more meeting heavy, and the 2 days at home are spent more on getting work done. This would be interesting to consider for school. Some days in classroom with direct instruction, and other days to do work in groups, independently, etc. </title>

<title>The envelope of time that encompasses the schedule will have to be determined; ie., longer days, ASA&#39;s in the morning, flexible start times, 4 day weeks, etc. Then the time units within this overall schedule will have to be determined. Units could be set up as mastery learning units so students are able to learn at their own pace</title>

<title>I think when all students are &quot;Free&quot; at the same time...time tends to be used ineffectively. <title>I like the idea of having current 80 minute block. I&#39;ve worked in schools where a block was 45 minutes - it was really hard to get anything done really. No time going over homework. So they put two 45-min blocks together to make 90-minute classes; this drains all the energy out from the teachers as well as the students. 80 minute works perfectly!</title>

<title>The article, &quot; Why A School’s Master Schedule Is A Powerful Enabler of Change&quot; had an interesting insight into Luella High, where three teachers that teach the same subject teach at the same time, but they are all doing something different. Students can choose which teacher to go to depending on their needs that day. One teacher might be working with a big group discussing at topic, another teacher helps with small group work, and the third is helping students apply knowledge through project work. </title>

<title>It&#39;s really important to have teachers from all parts of the school in this committee as schedules can look very different depending on school sections.</title>

<title>My question for scheduling/timetables is what is it we want for our students- for me, I want to give them less stress and better opportunities to learn. By limiting the amount of assessments they have in given weeks and by allowing them to finish tasks in a condensed amount of time, students will be less stressed and achieving more. Staff who would normally teach a 4 week unit, would do so in two weeks. This plan still allows for the curriculum to be covered, with no loss.My idea- HS- if you are in DP G 11-12, you presently take 6 core classes, plus TOK and frees for Extra HLWhat if a student only took their Group 1,2 and 3 subjects for 2 weeks and those classroom teachers determined how much time they needed each day. In addition, from 11:00-11:45 every day was TOK, PE, EE time built into the schedule, CAS, PSE, SDL, etc… It could be G 10 and 12 having Group 1,2,3 subjects during first two weeks and G 9-11 being taught at the same time, their Group 4,5,6 classes. Then flip it the next two weeks where G 10-12 take their Group 4,5,6 and G 9-11 take their 1,2,3 classes.By doing this these three subjects are THE ONLY SUBJECTS the students would have homework for in those 2 weeks, meaning they should be less stressed out, have less assessments in a given week and would be achieving higher results as they are more focused on a lesser group of tasks. If I am a Capstone student or certificate/WAB classes student, those courses would be looked at in relation to the weeks G 11-12 classes are on offer. In MYP, it would line up with MS so that if a G 8 student wanted to take a G 10 Maths class, they could. The idea would be the same, that the students would study certain classes for two weeks, and then alternate the following weeks. In a given day a Science teacher might ask to have the students all day to do an all day experiment. He/she would give that time back to the other two subjects on the other days…it allows for a lot of flexibility. As I said, it is about less assessments in a given week, more focus on less subjects and longer periods of time with kids to get work done. I also like the idea of one half/full day of the week having SDL time.ES- Being that I am not an ES teacher, I think these students need an experts eye on their schedules. </title>
