Leah became successful because she had an amazing mom who dedicated time and research with what her child was going through. She wanted to be able to communicate with her child and thats all it took for Leah to get all the support she needed to become successful. ASL one of the best things to do. I can see that it helped developed her personality and mind to independently think what she wanted to do with her life.

I believe that Leah is successful because she had a good support system that made her feel comfortable and confident in her identity. They made sure that she could communicate with them and have a language. I personally believe that Leah learning ASL at an early age gave her an opportunity to learn and prosper with so much love and care around her. Yes, the Cochlear implants helped later in life but her success was from having a supportive family that accepted and loved her identity or better yet, a large part of who she was and embraced it.

I think Leah was successful because she had the support of her parents throughout her whole life. From early on they knew to adapt to the right mindset instead of feeling like something was wrong, they treated her like everyone else because nothing was ever wrong with her. They just had to learn to adapt. They’ve always done the best for her. Learning ASL helped her so much so when she got the CI she was still able to communicate. Everything she went through happened at the right timing and at the end of the day it all worked out for her good by the help of her support system.

I would say that her success is largely because of her parents actually taking action and teaching her at a young age. That way there was less of the typical language gap. Maybe also since she had to go through so much that she actually had to try and that built up a work ethic.

I think Leah is so successful to where she is now because she had access to as many resources for deaf kids. A lot of hearing parents of deaf children would put their kid in speech therapy to make them speak like a hearing child which is ignoring their deafness. I think it also helped that Leah had supporting parents who understood that she was actually deaf and not hearing. They did everything they could to make sure Leah just had a language to communicate with whether it was ASL or English.

After watching the video, I think the reason why Leah is so successful in her life is because her parents didn’t hesitate to provide her with the education and upbringing specially suited for her needs. Of course, learning ASL at a young age definitely contributed to her early impressive conversational skills, however, without her parents’ determination to be able to communicate with her, Leah might not have been as comfortable in expanding her knowledge and want for communication. Additionally, Leah’s parents believed in her capacity to learn and grow as much as if not more than the kids around her which undoubtably showed in her educational success with and without cochlear implants. Leah is successful because she was given the opportunity to have a full language without hesitation, which helped her express herself and develop critical thinking at a young age.

I believe Leah is successful because of the support of her parents. They helped her to reach to the best of her abilities and Leah was not held back. She was able to use ASL and focus on different meanings. I do think that starting at a young age helped her advance quickly but I don’t think if it was later it wouldn’t have been strong. Leah is smart and works hard. Whether she started at 4, later, or earlier, I believe she is able to excel.

I think Leah was so successful because of the foundation her parents laid for her. Them making the decision to teach her signing as soon as she was diagnosed rather than prolonging it —or even potentially never teaching her and putting her in speech therapy instead— allowed Leah to have and immediate way of communicating; essentially provided her with her right to have language. Her mother being there to confront the schooling systems as well as people in the medical field every time they would try to underestimate or hold Leah back from reaching her full potentially, allowed Leah the opportunity and the chance to grow and learn just like any other child would be able to do. I also think that the parent’s mindset that they had when she was diagnosed played a huge part in their journey. They didn’t dwell in denial and try ti find ways to “fix” their child. But rather, they accepted that there was nothing wrong with her and that they’d raise her as such.

I think that Leah was successful because of all of these reason combined. If her parents had not been supportive she would not have learned sign language so early in her life, which I believe helped with how smart she became. Having access to language at an early age is directly related to cognitive development. If she had not been exposed she might have had less brain development than she did being exposed to a language. Her parents being supportive about her wearing the implant also contributed because it opened up more opportunities for her.
