Cacao history Cacao is a BEAN!!! Cacao was used by the Aztecs to make a drink. It was very SOUR. The Greek name for cocoa—Theobroma—literally means, “food of the gods.”" Christopher Columbus is said to have brought the first cocoa beans back to Europe from his fourth visit to the 'New World' between 1502 and 1504."

I think Horses have a 5/5 impact on America because horses made it easy to travel, and they helped strengthen military power. They made farming easier because the Americas still did not invent the wheel. What they would do was, they would get farming tools strapped around them. For example they would pull a plow. This made it possible to plant more crops and harvest them. Not only were horses used for farm work but, they were also used for transportation. They had a huge impact and importance during the Columbian Exchange. During this time period travel and transportation was very hard a difficult because there were no cars, trucks, motorcycles, and basically everything else we use now for transportation. The reason why these creatures were so important is because they gave us a way to do what we could not before and that was travel or transport things easily. They were used in horse and buggies, we don't really use them anymore but they are very interesting.

After Columbus came to the west he inspired many other men to come, and explore the New World. Sunflower oil was able to soften leather, condition hair, wounds, and also used as cooking oil, medicine paint, animal feed and biodiesel. Oil of sunflower is rich in minerals like calcium and iron, and contains vitamin A and Vitamin D. The black seeds of sunflowers are used to make oil, and snacks are made out of striped seeds. On a scale of 1-5 on how sunflowers changed the east and west I would say it was about a 4.

On the bad scale. Polio would be a 3 out of 5. Polio is a disease that limits your body movement. The disease is caught by exposure to a person who has the disease. Polio is caught in places with poor sanitation. The virus travels in food made with dirty pans and stoves and it also travels in water from an infected reservoir. The real scientific name is poliomyelitis. Sadly, a president of the united states was infected with this disease. Franklin Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the US. He was infected by the virus visiting Europe. He was paralyzed from the waist down. Polio destroys nerve cells in the spinal cord. Which that causes people to lose ability to walk and stand. The reason of that is your spinal cord is where all your main walking muscles. This could cause people to lose limbs and move into prosthetics.

There are three types of bees in the hive: Queen, Worker and Drone. Honey bees have five eyes, and four wings that are latched into pairs by hooks. Queen bees will lay asmany as 2000 eggs on a good day and an average of one every 45 seconds. Honey bees from a typical hive visit approximatley 225,000 flowers per day. Bees must visit approximatley 2 million flowers and fly over 55,000 miles to make 1 pound of honey. Did you know that two tablespoons of honey can power 1 bee to fly once around the world. A Donkey is also known to be a Livestock Guardian. A Donkey has a strong dislike to dog and other canids. They show those canids who’s the boss by showing their hooves and teeth. So a Donkey is helpful for your livestock if you have a farm with animals and plants because a Donkey is like a sheep dog. Did you know Donkeys are smarter than horses. Donkey are smarter because they aren’t as scared horses are, but when they are scared they freeze. I would rate a Donkey a 4 of useful.

A very interesting fact about also helped with the generation of future dishes used along the west coast, including Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy, Old Fashioned Onion Rings, Onion Soup Grating, Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad, and rich and simple onion soup. The exact origin of the onion is unknown do to the fact that the outer shell leaves little to know trace at all and dissolves easily, but it was believed to developed somewhere around central Asia, or Pakistan, which they were carried on ships by colonizers from Europe. Onions also have antiseptic and antibacterial compounds which many ancient civilizations used for medical reasons, such as the Egyptians, one of the things they would use that for would to tell if a woman is pregnant or not. The Egyptians believed onions had a spiritual meaning, because the winding rings represented spiritual passages.

There are about 1.5 two times as big as domestic cattle. The Colombian Exchange brought horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and a lot of other useful animals to the Americas. Before Columbus, Native American tribes in the high Andes had domesticated llamas and alpacas and there is no other animals that weighed more than 45 kg or 100 pound. The definition of the word cattle is a large ruminant animals with horns and cloven hoofs, domesticated for meat or milk, or as beasts of burden; cows.

camrin malaria Malaria is caused by a mosquito bite. If you get bit by a male mosquito dont sweat it your ok, but if you get bit by a female uuuuuuugggghhhhhhh ya that may be bad. The reason why that would be bad is because a type of parasite in the female and it transitions from the female mosquito to the body and attacks blood cells. Symptoms to malaria fever, tiredness, vomiting and headaches. In very rare cases malaria causes yellow skin, seizures, coma or death. Symptoms usually begin ten to fifteen days after being bitten. If not treated symptoms may recur. On a scale of 1 to 5 the danger of malaria would be a 4. I said 4 because it is basically the flu but on steroids and it can kill sooo ya.

Llamas- Columbian ExchangeBy: Maggie VothThe name llama (in the past also spelled ‘lama’ or ‘glama’) was adopted by European settlers from native Peruvians. Llamas appear to have originated from the central plains of North America about 40 million years ago. They migrated to South America about 3 million years ago during the Great American Interchange. The height of a full grown, full size llama is 5.6 to 5.7 feet tall to the top of the head. They can weigh 290 to 440 pounds when full grown. At birth, a baby llama (called a cira) can weigh between 20 and 31 pounds. llamas can usually live to be 15 to 20 years with some individuals surviving to be 30 years or more. They are very social animals and live with other llamas as a herd. The wool produced by a llama is very soft and lanolin-free. Llamas are very intelligent and can learn simple tasks after a few repetitions. When using a pack they can carry about 20 to 30% of their body weight for about 5 to 8 miles. On a scale of 1-10 I think these animals influence is a 6-7 because of how we use them today. We use them for wool, sometimes but rarely for food, and we use them as Sherpa's on long trips to carry our materials.

Then, on the negative scale. Polio would be a 3/5. Now is is 1/5. New to old, Polio is a disease that limits your body movement. The Polio vaccine was developed in 1961. It was named DTaP. They were determined to get a vaccine because the record amount of people to get the disease was 57,628 cases and 6,091 deaths from Polio. 78 percent of people infected with polio got paralyzed from at least the waist down. Polio had as much as 139 outbreaks across the world before the vaccine. 2 after. Polio can affect pregnant women by killing the baby and infecting it. Being pregnant and having polio is much worse than a non-smoking man. People with polio sometimes stay in little huts also known as tuberculosis cells. That is where they leave someone in a cell to die if they know they can’t save them. They use these so you cannot expose someone else to a disease. They feed them through a hole in a wall. When you first enter Palmer Lake there is a white house. On the side there are little huts connected to it. Those are TB huts. This picture displays what people had to do with Polio.Once your limb was paralyzed or amputated.

Pigs

The pigs reproduce the fastest and served as meat for the explorers. Swine herds were found everywhere. In 1514, pigs had multiplied because there were no predators in Cuba. In Cuba there were 30,000 pigs and they were keep on reproducing. The pig of this time is was a little different then today’s pig. Pizarro brought pigs with him to Peru in 1531. Also De Soto brought them with him to Florida, and the thirteen that he brought multiplied to seven hundred hundred 3 years later. This shows how fast they were reproducing. To this day and 100 years ago or 200 years ago I think I will rate the pigs a 5/5 because everyone till this day eat pigs and farm them and when they make babies they will kill the adults and eat it for dinner and the pigs will reproduce and they will keep on doing that. Maybe they will eat pigs or pork chops once a week. Back when like all the explorers were living and finding the new world. They always use to eat animals and they would eat like steak, pork, chicken, and a lot of other meats. A lot of the explorers or people back then use to use the leather off animals and they would cut the leather off the animals and they would make blankets, clothes, and a lot of other stuff. I do rate the pigs a 5/5 and that's why but of course pigs didn’t have leather. They do have a 5/5 impact in Europe and the USA.	The pigs are from Europe and they came from the new world.
