  • Cost per person: The average amount spent per person in the UK is $4,200.  The US spends more than twice this amount at $9,900 or more than any other country in the world.  
  • Publicly financed health care in the UK: the UK spent 9.9% of GDP on health care, with public expenditures accounting for 79.5% of spending. The US spent 17.2% of GDP on health care.  
  • Privately financed health care in the UK: In 2015, an estimated 10.5% of the UK population had private health insurance.  
  • Publicly financed health care in the US: Medicare is federal insurance provided to those 65 years and older and to permanently disabled individuals.  It is funded through payroll tax, monthly premiums, and federal tax revenue.  Medicaid is provided at the state level to those that cannot afford insurance.  Its financed through federal and state tax revenues.
  • Privately financed health care in the US: Private insurance covers almost 66% of population through employer-based and individual policies.
