One hazard of climate change is sea level rise which can exacerbate the occurrence of storm surges and flooding. This can have social impacts such as stress, anxiety, trauma, food and water contamination or shortages which can result in undernutrition or malnutrition, increased prevalence of water-borne pathogens and contaminants such as cholera and malaria, disruption of health services and power outages.

Another hazard is more extreme weather. This can result in increased frequency and intensity of storms, more frequent or prolonged droughts and more wildfires. Consequently, this can mean injury, death, mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and trauma, food and water shortages which can result in dehydration and undernutrition, increased waterborne pathogens such as malaria and typhoid, exacerbation of respiratory conditions such as asthma and emphysema.

It could also result in potential wild fires as seen in Australia early in 2020, increasing the risk to exacerbation of respiratory diseases including asthma.
