John Steele, singer of "The Love Nest" was successful but didn't care much for materialistic things. He cared more for the things money couldn't buy. He left his band, Animals so he wouldn't miss out on his childs' life. Gatsby believes money can buy happiness. He has a huge place but it is only a house. One wouldn't call it a home because there is no love within it. Gatsby wants more than anything for someone (Daisy!) to call his heart home. The mood is hopeful as readers hope Daisy makes the right decision. Gatsby is doing everything possible to impress her and sweep her off her feet.

The lyrics describe Daisy's indecision in leaving Tom. Gatsby is willing to share all he has with Daisy for nothing more than her love.

"Sheik of Araby" is about a 1919 romance novel by Edith Maude Hull regarding an English girl who is kidnapped and seduced by an Arab sheik. The girl ends up falling in love and marrying the Arab who is actually a British aristocrat. The song has a romantic feel although the circumstances of the relationship being described are wrong. The mood of chapter 4 is sympathetic as readers admire Gatsby's dedication to Daisy. However, Daisy is married so that makes their circumstances wrong, too.

"Ain't We Got Fun?" regards the economic and social changes of the United States in the Jazz Age. Everyone wanted nothing more than to have a good time. However, there was a lot of comparing of status. The mood of the chapter is playful as Gatsby flaunts his success. The readers witness Daisy slowly give into him.

"Sheik of Araby" is some background noise, sang by some girls as Jordan and Nick drive by. Jordan is coincidentally telling Nick Gatsby and Daisy's backstory at the time. The use of song is ironic because Gatsby wishes to seduce Daisy with his wealth. He has also created a new identity for himself in order to woo her.

Gatsby has "stolen" Daisy from Tom like the Sheik of Araby kidnapped the English woman. Daisy's heart will never belong to Gatsby and the English woman's heart will never belong to the Sheik because the men aren't who they claim to be. This song would add to the sympathetic mood as Gatsby is pretty much trying without any benefit.

"Sad and alone in a mansion
No loving wife to caress
Said a man sad and lonely
No loving wife's lips to kiss"
This song has just the opposite of the message of "The Love Nest". In "The Love Nest" the narrator doesn't have much but he has plenty of love. In "What Is Home Without Love", the narrator has many things but is missing love. Gatsby wants Daisy to play the role of his loving wife. He has this big house FOR her but she doesn't love him so he remains sad and alone in a mansion. This song would add to the hopeful mood because if Daisy were to hear it, maybe she'd wake up and see the impact she could make on Gatsby.

Vegas and Gatsby's have party reputations. People go to both places to have a good time, make memories (and mistakes), and forget about their money. This song would add to the playful mood as the narrator of the song doesn't have a care in the world. This song would persuade Daisy into seeing that with Gatsby, she would be having the time of her life.
