• The yellow car - yellow coloring of the car represents gold and Gatsby showing off his wealth - "On week-ends his Rolls-Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city, between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains"

• The green light - represents the american dream/ green is the color of money -"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us" + "If it wasn't for the mist we could see your home across the bay . . . You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock" + "...he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward—and distinguished nothing except a single green light..."

• Myrtle's Dog - the excess of money- Myrtle only wanted the idea of owning a dog - decadence and materialistic -"Here’s your money. Go and buy ten more dogs with it"

- Gatsby's house - very big and ostentatious even though it is only for show to impress Daisy - "A factual imitation of some Hotel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one side, spanking new under a thin beard of raw ivy, and a marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of lawn"

It is described as colourful, making it seem out of place in the Valley of Ashes. It is also describes as something extremely noticeable and rare. Nick suggest that there is something extremely peculiar about it. They symbolise the eyes of God and how he watches everything
