Do Personality Traits and Values Form a Coherent Whole?

A number of personality traits have already been identified as having a genetic basis.

In the article, it mentions that trait theories have focused on describing stable characteristics of someone personality such as how they typically think, feel and behave. Recent theories have attempted to understand how these traits and values fit into a broader model of personality, and hence have looked at how particular traits, like those in the Big Five (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism), are related to particular values.

Why is this theory of personality important to the study of psychology?

Genetics + Trait theory are important to the study of psychology in that they both involve how we study different forces and how they influence personality. By studying this, doctors and scientists can better understand how our minds and bodies work, and what's happening when it doesn't work properly. Genetics explain a lot of things, like what makes us unique, why we look like other family members, what diseases run in the family, etc. Taking time to study this can help us better understand ourselves and our backgrounds. Also, genetics can help to explain where certain personalities came from and how to predict how others will act.
