He's usually shown as a person with the human body but the head of a falcon. Ancient Egyptians believed that Ra would get swallowed during the night then was reborn in the morning. They also believed that he roamed the underworld at night. His crown has a sun disk on top of it. The sun disk was encircled by a sacred cobra. They believed that it was Ra's role to sail across the heavens in his boat called the "Barque of a Million Years" and the sun would follow, causing the day to go on regularly as it does now. In the morning when he would rise in the East, the sun would follow. THis was named "Madjet" which means "Becoming strong." BY the end of the day his boat was called "Semekret" which means "Becoming weak." as he was believed to die at the end of the day. (Swallowed by Nut).
