The Dakota pipeline is 1,172 miles and would connect oil rich areas of North Dakota to Illinois where crud oil could be transported to refineries and its built by Energy Transfer Partners. It's a 3.8 billion project that would cross four states and change the landscape of U.S. crude supply. Protesting has been a huge issue for months in North Dakota and most of them are Native Americans. Police say they have arrested at least 141 protesters in one day.

The fight is between Energy Transfer Partners and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. What ETP wants is to build a pipeline that will carry oil and that it will be safer to instead of carrying them in rail cars or trucks. The Sioux Tribe thinks it is not safe to carry oil through the pipeline because the oil will spill on their water supply.

It is between the Energy Transfer Partners and the Sioux Tribe. Good and bad things can come from building the Dakota Pipeline. Who it will benefit is the company Energy Transfer Partners because it will be earning millions of dollars. It would not benefit the Sioux Tribe because they could take over their land possibly and many people live there and also effect their water supply by the oil going into their water supply. Potential benefits would be it would bring millions of dollars to local economies and create 8,000 to 12,000 construction jobs for people. drawbacks would be that the oil could leak into the water supply of the Sioux Tribe.

The Obama administration cancelled the pipeline because of climate change it could come with. Obama said that if they move forward with the project that it would destroy the ability of fighting off climate change which he thinks is very important to the country. The Trump administration believed it was an efficient energy project and that it would create 42,000 jobs for people. They said it was a great use of technology.

My thought on this whole Dakota Pipeline controversy is I think this is not a good idea and they should not build it. The reason is that if they did they would hurt the Sioux Tribe because its their sacred land and they do not want anyone near it or messing around with it. There could be a possibility where a pipe breaks and leaks all the oil into their only water supply and could have no more clean water. It is their land and they should be the ones to approve if they want pipes under their ground or not.
