2. Culture-Based education can/will enable First Nations students to reclaim and retain their history, culture, traditional values, and self-identity. As well as enabling them to " to participate fully in the social, economic, political and educational advancement of First Nations." (Bill-C 33) 

3. Student engagement, strengthened relationships with family members of the same culture, positive self-worth, and increased student achievement.

1. "There are a number of issues that impact on Aboriginal student achievement, including a lack of awareness among teachers of the learning
styles of Aboriginal students and a lack of understanding within schools
and school boards of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit cultures, histories,
and perspectives." (FNMI Framework, pg. 27) 

2.  Lack of funding for culture-based education programs (skidoos, boats, trapping equipment, literature, experienced individuals etc.) 

3. Discrepancies between the Canadian Government and Local Bands and/or Local Education Authorities visions re Indigenous Education. I would call these MAJOR obstacles! For example, the Federal Government still has in its possession, millions of dollars that has not been released to local Indigenous education authorities because the government and Chiefs have not been able to come to an agreement with how the release of this money to schools should be allocated (it's been about 30 years). Current discussions are underway and we should be seeing a release of these funds to local education authorities once a governing body has been established to allocate the funds to First Nations schools (My source is a liaison hired by the Chiefs (all across Canada) to come and speak to educators in First Nations communities). The Government still has a lot of control over how funds are allocated to local education authorities. I believe that this money was supposed to be allocated by INAC but this will no longer be the case and there needs to be an "oversight" committee to control where the money goes once it has been allocated.
