"but if its a girl, that's a different thing, my son, and you know it. You bring the tea roses and she don't turn into an accountant. You take my meaning? Hey she's gonna through her arms around your neck."(456)
This quote is about the vendor telling the young man " Love" what flowers he should buy to impress the girl, and the vendor said roses. How this quote relates back to situational irony is that the roses represent love but instead using the flowers for love he kills " Norma" which is the opposite of what flowers signify. A psycho analysis theory behind this quote is that he has an in balanced ego because on one hand he is buying flowers for a girl which is the super ego and on the other hand he kills her which is his id. Last, this quote represents the young mans character development because when he was purchasing the flowers he seemed normal, but at the end of the story the young man is really twisted in the head.

This quote represents situational irony because the young man states his name is love when a minute before this he killed a woman, the exact opposite of what love is. Through psychoanalysis it is shown he has an unbalanced ego and gave into his desires, his id, because his super ego was different from what he sees as acceptable and from society’s definition of acceptable. Due to this he kills a woman whom he thought was Norma, a woman who had been dead for ten years. To further prove he has an unbalanced ego, after he had killed “Norma” he walked away as if nothing had happened, like the events that had unfolded were natural. “He began to smile. A bounce came into his step as he walked on down Seventy-Third Street.” This quote signifies that the young man had repressed the moment into his unconscious as a way to cope with the fact that he had just killed someone, but due to this it is also the reason as to why he keeps killing women until he finds the “Norma” he was searching for.

"When he had passed by the woman said. ' How come you never look that way anymore?'
'Hun?'
'Nothing'. she said but she watched the young man in the grey suit disappear into the gloom of the encroaching night and through that if there was anything more beautiful than springtime it was young love" (Pg. 460)

Explanation:
This quote is an example of dramatic irony. After killing his sixth victim, "Norma", the young man comes back out of the ally way and sees a woman that he has seen in the past. When she looks at him she explains that it is beautiful to see young love in the spring time. This is dramatic irony due to the reader knowing more than the people in the story. The reader knows that the young man is not in love because he killed someone, but the women thinks that he is in love with someone.

Significance:
In the story the young man, has a split personality that is based on his repressed memories. This is because after he killed another person, he later walks away with a bounce in his step. The quote shows that the repressed memories from the murder and the past are starting to show. It says " How come you never look that way anymore? Huh? Nothing". This shows that the young man is unaware that he has two personalities.

The young man's split personality connects to imagery. In the passage King is trying to get the reader to imagine the young man disappearing into the darkness, using the sense of sight. King wants the reader to feel like they are seeing this happen in person.

The theme of love, is a complicated term to understand. King is making a point to the reader that love is unfamiliar and hard to understand, in this case the young man.
