They were trapped in the ocean for weeks and weeks, seeing others being eaten by sharks. It was awful. Evryone was doubting. It made the situation even worse.  Some questions they asked "Why weren't there more lifeboats?" "Why didnt anybody notice the ship was overdue in port?" etc... </p>]]></description>

That also meant the navy could no longer sugress information or keep stories out of the news paper by arguing that exposures could damage the war effort.
