The implication that the country can be held to a higher ranking is emphasized since it is clear that the basis of the society needs to have ignorance. This can also make it clear that ignorance is a key strength for the society that Winston is placed in. Winston states "The aim of the Low, when they have an aim—for it is an abiding characteristic of the Low that they are too much crushed by drudgery to be more than intermittently conscious of anything outside their daily lives" (pg. 254). Readers can interpret that the low class or the lower part of the hierarchy is too focused on their drudgery which is known to be their hard work or just the job they must perform. Also, as the low focuses on the difficult lifestyle of work, the ignorance of outside their lives is emphasized and made to seem that the low have their life due to how ignorant they are about the world. Winston begins to discuss the High class of the hierarchy. The author highlights how even though the High is seen to be the people with the most power, they have ignorance of their own self which can lead to a lot of difficulties in life. Additionally, it can be implied that the low and middle are ignorant of how the power of the high class can also lead to destruction. Readers can believe that the classes are ignorant towards each other on what goes on in others' lives which emphasizes how ignorance is not always strong. The author leads to the idea that the party is supposed to be people of certain circumstances when it comes to their mindset. It is also conveyed that the members of the party have a mindset that can easily be controlled by the government. Due to the idea that the party members must be ignorant of what is right or wrong and can not be aware of how corrupt the system of the society is. An example of this is in page 201 where the author states "The aim of the Low, when they have an aim- is to abolish all distinctions and create a society in which all men shall be equal" due to poverty and the normality of disliking the poor. The goal of equality allow for the Low to be manipulated by the middle to overcome the high class as the idea of equality is enticing and hopeful to the lower class as a redistribution of power would mean a redistribution of wealth in theory. George Orwell writes "The two aims of the Party are to conquer the whole surface of the earth and to extinguish once and for all the possibility of independent thought" (pg. 244). In analyzing the quote, it can be believed that the Party wants every person in society to be ignorant of the thought of getting controlled and even the idea that there are even humans.
