natalie: can you tell me about your childhood?
debbie: i grew up in Glendora California until about 7th grade, then i moved to Covina California. My mom was born in Los Angeles and my dad was born in Detroit Michigan. My parents divorced when i was about 4 or 5 years old. My stepdad is from Canada and he had raised me and i had several brothers and sister and step brothers and sisters. we had a fun childhood, we went camping alot and traveled everywhere.
natalie: what did you wanna be when you grew up?
debbie: I don’t know if there’s a specific field, or position i should say, but i kinda wanted to do more of the legal field. like a legal secretary or a paralegal or some type of law enforcement. I had relatives in law in forcement.
natalie: okay, can you describe your career to me?
debbie: i work at a police department. i work in the records department. i process the officers reports and get them to the district attorneys, i deal with the district attorneys a lot. and i do stolen vehicles, missing person reports, i do many types of reports. it’s like a multifunction type thing.
natalie: can you describe one of your greatest accomplishments?
debbie: one of my greatest accomplishments, i got promoted to law enforcement technician. would you like to know about that?
natalie: Yes, tell me about that.
debbie: I will be in the field more with the police officers. assisting them with their calls, i’ll be doing more cold crime calls. Like vehicle burglaries, home burglaries, where there are no suspects. And they will be sending me to crime scene school, so i’ll be able to process crime scenes, fingerprinting DNA processing. I can be on anytype of calls: homocide, burglaries, and such like that.
natalie: wow. how is your career fulfilling?
debbie: i think it’s fulfilling because i get to work with the police officers and see how they get to help the public and people, i have alot of respect for them and even though i always have, having family members who were in law enforcement. But even more so now working with them one on one, i don’t think they get enough credit for things. you know in the media you see all the negative stuff, people really just don’t see the good they do for everyone and everything. and what they have to go through to do this. it takes a lot. So, i think it’s fulfilling to be able to see them deal with the public and see how much they help them and really work hard to help people and put their lives on the line for everybody.
natalie: yeah that’s really great. what wisdom do you have for the future generations?
debbie: well, work hard. never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. things may seem like they’re hard or impossible or whatever but life’s tough.
natalie: yeah i agree.

debbie: that’s just how it is. DONT give up. just keep trying and you will eventually get there. If you want something bad enough you will get it. So just keep going and not everything is just going to be handed to you so easily. you got to work hard for stuff. you work hard for something, you’ll get it and you’ll feel better about yourself knowing that you worked hard for that.

natalie: that’s good advice, very good advice. What are your hopes for the future?
debbie: well i hope i get to retire in the next 10 years, i hope for that. and be able to travel once i retire, or before hand. i really like to travel. and to learn a lot in this new position.
natalie: where would you like to travel?
debbie: Italy is my dream trip. Italy and Greece.
natalie: Italy and Greece?
debbie: yeah. but anywhere. i’ll take anywhere. all over the country, other countries.
natalie: what dreams do you have for me?
debbie: for you to be happy ofcourse. and hopefully accomplish what you want to do and don’t give up and hopefully you’ll do your dream career as a screenwriter and be very successful at it. as long as you set your mind do it and don’t give up, you can do anything.
natalie: thank you. do you think i have a chance at being a screenwriter when i’m older?
debbie: ofcourse you can, i told you. you can have a chance at doing anything you want to be. you’re a very talented screenwriter and you’re a very talented writer. and you have a very good imagination so i think that you would be very good at that.
natalie: thank you that means a lot. also thank you for letting me interview you. you have a very interesting job.
